So I've got a couple Suicks I want to repaint...what do you suppose the best method for removing the old paint is? Should I just sand them down? Thanks,

Nick

When I was removing paint and clearcoat from furniturs I used a heatgun and it worked great but maybe the clearcoat is to thick on those lures :/. But you can try it out.

I bought what looked an old 7 inch suick and that looked unused and the first time I used it the paint started to smear and was tacky. So I let it dry and catefully sanded it all off. Worked for me and doesn't look like I took away any from the original shape. I'm also going to be painting it, but I'll probably just use a can of spray paint so nothing fancy there. I'd like to try and add just a little weight and was thinking about adding a couple screws on the bottom somewhere for the weight. Has anyone tried adding weight to a wooden 7in. Suick before or have any ideas on placement?

Find the balance point of the lure with your finger and that is where you should put the weight or it will not run correctly.

I like to be just a tad towards the nose from the balance point. Gives it more of a wobble effect it seems. I also found a box of large headed, small diameter SS screws. I used all of those over the years on suicks. I added SS washers and epoxied the screw holes. Only had on fall out, but that Suick had the course and was proudly dehooked and left sitting on a rock in the wilderness.
