Day two of the Professional Musky Tournament Trail on Lake Vermilion is underway! Weather for today looks like it may make the fishing a little tougher. The anglers headed out with blue bird skies and low winds. Looks like a chance of cloud cover and possibly rain toward the last hour of the event. Should be an interesting day!

OFM Day 2 From The Water Reports

1) Word on the water is the bite from day 1 is still hot only a little after 9:00 in the morning and some of the teams have already doubled up and fish over 50 inches have already been caught.

2) Cloud cover is moving in and it seems like the wind is picking up a bit. Could be another great day of fishing on Vermilion.

3) Boats will be in at 1:00 today and the awards will start at 3:00 at Bay View Lodge.

4) Reports still coming in from every end of the lake from the East End to the West End considering the major weather change today fishing is not too bad, rumors of guys tripling up already today and several fish over 50 inches.

Congrats to all those who caught fish. Sounds like a heck of a day one with fish biting all day long. I have found the key to winning a PMTT event, be a LOCAL. That's three for three so far this year.

Amazing amount of fish and size, the 57.5 doesn't even get you in the top 10!

Probably the best bite on the lake since the cowgirl craze of 2006.

The top boats sure made it look like a crazy-good bite, but it should be pointed out that:
- Well over half of the boats got skunked
- It was about 44 man-hours per fish, assuming 2 anglers per team (though I'm sure there were some solo fisherman).

(117 teams * 2 people/team * 15 hours) / 79 muskies = 44.4 hours/musky

Stats like this seam pointless to me, Doesn't matter if you are on a 400 acres lake or LOTW...some people get skunked on a day while there are those that figured it out for the day (or week for that matter) and consistently boat fish.

Hmmmmm......winners got 5, a 50.75 and two 48" class fish with smallest still in the 40's. They sure didn't target small fish.......

Hey Rick, we were one of those teams with a lot of small fish. It was strange because, in practicing for the event, my partner and I caught plenty of big ones, including a 53.5 and 52 among other high 40s. I trust you would consider those big? We saw plenty of other giants and left them alone until the event. When the PMTT rolled around, our same practice spots were producing a lot of bites from small fish, though we dumped six fish during the event, five of which were as big or bigger than anything we registered. We were as surprised as anyone by all the peanuts. What were we going to do? Not register them out of embarrassment? This was a tournament of points, not a big fish event, so we took what the lake was giving us. It was unfortunate for us that we dumped all the larger fish we hooked, but that's how it goes sometimes. Brian
