Hefeweizen is a good summer beer. Who produces the one you get on tap ?
i'll go in and check later this afternoon ... if in the area, it's at Otto's. not sure if anyone else has one in the immediate area. Otto's is best after about mid September. can't wait til these clowns go home. |

| Funny how our tastes change. Back in the day it was Stroh's, Coors, Bud, or whatever else we could swipe from our parents.
Today if I were to be forced to drink one beer for the rest of my life it would be Sprecher. One of the finest beers I have encountered.
Black Bavarian for cold temps, Amber for warmer weather. They make a few seasonals that are outstanding as well. The Doppel Bock comes out around Easter I believe, and is by far the best beer I have ever had. There is also a Mai Bock that's pretty good.
As for celebratory beers in the boat? Anything that's cold. PBR, Old Style, Miller Lite, who cares? As long as it's ice cold and we're drinking it because someone put a fish in the net, any beer is a good beer.

Location: Hudson, WI | If you're ever in Hudson, hit up the Winzer Stube. It's one of the top rated German restaurants in the country, and their imported beer list is just stupid. During Oktoberfest they usually have at least 6 of them on tap, including Hacker-Pschorr Oktoberfest (original), which may be the greatest beer ever made. Leinie's Oktoberfest is great, too. |

Location: Minnesota. | I'm gonna go down as likely the only oddball here. At 65 and after V'Nam I spent 1 1/2 yrs in Germany and tried to like that stuff and it never happened. They supposedly had good beer.
Tried a few times since and nothing's changed...

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Sled, its the import version (pasturised), I don't like it versus the rael stuff. But each has his own palate, the real stuff is much better. But Haberstumpf is absolutely liquid gold. There are some really truly great beers in Germany. Most are not known or available beyond a 10 mile radius of the brewery. My last business trip to Germany, I shipped a couple of cases back and also some wine from the Main River Valley (Kitzingen) , incredible wines. Both reds and whites.

Let me know what you think. I'm a big fan of the Pfeffersteak and the Zigeunernice tryzel, but everything I've had has been fantastic.

That keeps autocorrecting to zegeunernice tryzel....it's supposed to be Z nice tryzel. Pork chops pounded flat, lightly breaded and fried, topped with Black Forest ham, sauteed peppers and onions, and a cream sauce over the top. Chive mashed potatoes and red and white cabbage.

| All those trendy beers are over rated and taste bad. Who ever thought fruit would go with beer is way off. I just stick to beers that been around awhile because people like them and don't for those trendy beers that taste great but they don't. Somebody got a B plus in business management and thinks he can reinvent beer. Sorry Charlie your wrong. Rolling Rock,Bud Lite,PBR are great beers. But don't worry trendsetters they have trendy beer tomorrow for you to try for $9 dollars a six pack. If you belive that I got oceanfront property for sale in Kansas for you to look at. |

Has nothing to do with trendy. I'd rather pay 9$ for six quality beers that have a good ABV versus watered down crap in a can that is full of calories and water.
It's no different than wine....you can drink good stuff, or you can also drink it out a box.

Hand crafted beers are a lot like hand crafted musky lures. Most are more expensive than the mass produced stuff, and not all of them are worth the money. But once you learn to appreciate quality and workmanship and can tell the difference between lures that are something special and those that are all hat and no cattle, it's an easy generalization to make.
It's like wine. To some there is red wine and there is white wine. It all costs $4.99 and comes in a screw top bottle or even a box. Once you get further into it you realize that a Merlot is not a Cab is not a Shiraz is not a Zinfandel...
There are a lot of "great" beers out there, but if you don't like Weiss beer, many of them will taste horrible to you. If you're not much of a fan of "hoppy" beers, an IPA is not for you. If you don't like rich heavy beers, than a good oatmeal stout or a nut brown ale will be a waste of money.
Bottom line is there are beers you drink to enjoy the flavor, and beers you drink because it's beer and it's there.

On a 90 degree day, a Busch light tastes great. That doesn't mean it's a great beer.
Have to agree on the screw top wines, though. We've found some of the $10 varieties to be pretty #*^@ good, and some of the $50 varieties to be better for cooking than drinking. |

| I appreciate most beers and most beer styles. Honestly, I haven't come across many that I don't like. (Although a few of the macro's come to mind).
Watery domestics do have their time and place. That's pretty much summertime to me. Finish mowing the lawn on a hot afternoon in August? A PBR will taste delicious.
I also really love hefeweizens in the summer months. Had a great one at Grinders in Kansas City this past weekend made by the KC Bier Co.
Most other occasions, I'll choose an IPA. Lakefront, Squatters Hop Rising, Bell's Two Hearted, Great Lakes Commodore Perry, are some of my fav's. Each a bit different but all very tasty.

Brings back a bunch of memories. I was in my early twenties, young and a bit dumb as most young GI's.
Based in Wurtzburg, I did a good bit of running around Kitzingen/Schweinfurt areas. The strawberry wines (Erdbervines?? iirc) gave me lots of headaches but I loved it!
