As long as all the units have ethernet connections, I assume you can link three units together?

Yes, but you need a 5 port switch, 3 ethernet cables, and 3 ethernet dongles(for core units) . Without the switch you can do 2 and save over $ 300.

Yes.
just make sure you have the latest softwear in your birds.

Yes , I run both birds off one side imaging transducer.
