The water level is up, the water temps are lower than normal, & the weeds aren't up in most areas.

That's gonna change things for sure. Our water levels have been crazy this year. Cave run was 31 ft over summer pool. Set a all time record.

My wife and I were fishing over one of the ramp parking lots and the street lights where only 3 feet out of the water. When it gets up like that the duck ponds behind scotts creek is one of the goto spots. Last weekend the ramps going to the floating docks were still under water. Should be back to normal in the next 10 days

We had at least five inches of rain here today and a solid NE wind howling all day. Glad we got this out if the way.

How long does it take st clair to recover from a rain like this?

Rain doesn't bother it generally because its so flat. The real problem is wind, of which NE is the worst. I realized years ago though and started mentioning in seminars that water is most dense at 39 degrees. This means that the sediment (which is easily stirred up because of the lake's shallow nature) stays suspended alot longer in cold water times than mid summer. In other words the water will be fine.

Thanks for the info! It's a little different than the southern reservoirs we fish.

Yeah we don't have the gully washers. Most of the rain is laying in farmland where I live trying to find a ditch.

Nothing better than a gully washer in July to raise the lake a foot. Time to burn vacation time at work cause the musky will be feeding hard in the back of the creeks. One of our best weekends was a couple years ago when it rained off and on the week before and weekend of July 4th. We where the only boaters praying for rain that weekend

Depends on the wind direct for me but I'll start out shallow close to shore and see what happens.

Might try the channels out.

I am going to miss the opener this year The weed growth is slow this year so I would say finding a good sized weeded area that hasn't been pounded yet or driven over by 1000 pleasure boats would be the key.

thanks for all of the advice, anything else would be greatly appreciated. If you ever come to Kentucky hit me up and ill help all I can. we are going to be in town early enough Friday to ride around and try to find new weed growth. A friend from work was up a couple of weeks ago and he said all he could find was dead weeds from last year. he hooked about a 40 on a drop shot small mouth fishing, obviously didn't have enough net and the fish cut his line at the boat.

My advice....if you do not see a lot of other musky boats within your set of eyes, either casting or trolling, then you probably are not in the best spot. And when you see those boats, keep your eyes open and see if they are catching , or not. LSC musky fishing can be a lot like walleye fishing other lakes in that regard

any advice on which part of the lake to start? We are staying in Roseville and will be launching from Metro Park. Not looking for exact locations of your prime spots just a starting point. From what I have seen its not like fishing our southern reservoirs where a spot may be one tree or patch of grass the size of a boat. A spot on st clair may be the size of a mall parking lot or larger and have a ton of fish on it.

I just learned this, Canadian side season doesn't start until the 20th. Wow, almost made a big error.

get down to the SE part of the lake ( Canada) if weather allows, start out in 12-14 feet of water, and troll as many lines as you can until you find some fish. If you get into a pattern, drift through and cast it.

Look for the other boats, as I mentioned, and you will know you are probably in the right spot.
