| Here are my first two attempt and lure making. im pretty happy with how they turned out. I used etex for the top coat and there is still a slight "tackyness" to them. I have read some of the posts on here and realize it could be a number of factors. anyone know how make them less tacky?

Location: Waconia,MN | Yep they should be. Did you mix equal parts and mix it good so there's no swirls? I mix mine slowly for about 3 minutes in a clear cup. Mixing in a clear cup allows you to see the etex, it should be nice and clear no swirls or blurry looking spots. Give it another try you'll figure it out.

Location: oswego, il | It is critical to get the etex in equal parts. not enough hardener and it will be tacky.

Location: SE, WI. | like others said, equal parts!!! I mix for 6 -7 minutes. After about 4 minutes , I put in micro wave for about 5-6 seconds. This excelerates curing time. if you only are doing a few baits, your good. if your doing a bunch a baits, the microwave thing is not advised. Also, while mixing, make sure you try and wipe the sides of your cup often. I use a Popsicle stick, or small diameter doweling for scraping the walls of your cup! My baits are pretty much cured in about 14-16 hours. JD

Mix equal parts hardener and resin (this is very important) uusingsilicone free syrings works best, mix well for couple minutes scraping sides well to get a homogenous mix. Then pour into another clear plastic shot glass, mix well for another couple minutes. I then pour out onto ceramic tinfoil lined plate and cover with bowl. Let stand covered for 5-15 min before applying. This method has worked the best for me, my experience points to an incorrect mix as to the reason for the tackiness. The humidity can also be an issue if it gets too high.

| Thanks for all the info everyone, ill definitely try the syrings next time. as for these ones, should i try puting another coat on? or should they still last a while? would applying heat help at all? |

Location: NeverNever Lake | Like it was said, it's critical to get 50/50 and equally so to mix it thoroughly while scraping the sides of container. The smaller the batch, the less room for mistakes. I would also consider giving Crystal Sheen a try. Made by the same folks that manufacture E-tex Lite, it dries somewhat faster and perhaps harder. Temp and humidity are also factors in the curing process. A quick shot in the microwave before application may also prove to be beneficial. I can tell you that I got really good at working with this stuff, it was quite common for me to completely paint and coat a bait the night before a fishing trip and use that bait the next day in the water........
