Just wanted to say thank you to bigmo for your time running this for us, and Muskie first for the opportunity.

Hope this happens again next season and I can keep the hooks in the fish!

THANKS AGAIN

Thanks for the compliments. It wasn't always as tight on my side of things as I would have liked but I'm glad you enjoyed it anyway. I also applaud you all because the patience and enthusiasm of the teams was as important as anything else.

At this point, I would envision doing this again next season. We will take this year's revival of MatchFishing, make improvements and have fun with it.

The key will be to get more participants so please spread the word. This year happened to work out where we had the pools set up by State. But, I don't have any preconceived ideas of how the pools get set up so let's start with getting more anglers involved and go from there.

Now let's work on getting this year closed out with a bang......one semi-final is set with one more pending!!

We have a semi-final winner and we have a tie...........

With a 37", River Musky edges past Tretsven who blanked.

Congrats to Tretsven for some good fishing in the matches and to River Musky for advancing to the final.

Team Mitchell - 0 vs Red Ranger - 0

Team Mitchell and Red Ranger need to fish another match ASAP. Get in touch each other to see what works and let me know.

Congrats on the fish Steve! My dad lost 2 fish that would have been legal, and had about 5-6 follows that were really hot but wouldn't commit

Thanks Nate - I was really worried that wasn't going to be enough...especially the way you've been putting them in the boat all year. That one missed a Hang 10 three different casts, but ate a small 5" firetiger playmaker. Only saw 2 or 3 more fish all day...both smaller than that one, so I don't think they would've been legal for the match.

Some days it's better to be lucky than good. I/we were super lucky.

Any discussions had between Team Mitchell and Red Ranger about their rematch to determine the second MatchFishing finalist?

October is here tomorrow and the finals need to be completed in October. We need to have enough time to fish re-do's if necessary.

If it helps either team for the final...You guys should fish a match this weekend (I'm "familying" it up the 3rd and 4th). I am available to fish a match the 10th or 11th OR (preferably) the 24th or 25th.

I hope it works for Mitchell and Ranger to fish this weekend

How about one more try/weekend for semi final?

Then, I'd love to fish the final the weekend of the 24/25.

Were not going to be able to fish this weekend then were both out of town for awhile after that. You and Red Ranger should just try and set up a finals match. Team Mitchell is out for the year

River Musky vs. Red Ranger October 25th??? Hope it works. That is about my only "for sure" day in October.

Team Mitchell has to concede the semi-final match to Red Ranger....a good sportsmanship move from Team Mitchell. May it pay off and then some on the water for you.

River Musky and Red Ranger, check your text messages. River Musky can fish 10/25. Let me know what's up.

24th and 25th, two day event for the "ship!" Hopefully we can get one or a couple in the net with two days and this won't cause a re-match. Let me know if it's still a "go" for this idea?

Thanks Red Ranger and Big Mo,
Steve

I thought we talked about the 24th and 25th, but then i got the text and the message here only talking about the 25th. We kinda planned a sturgeon fishing trip to baudette friday and satureday, then stop by a lake around bemidji to fish our match Sunday and fish alittle monday before we head home. Would it be a huge deal if you fish sat and sun and we fish sun and mon?

I'll leave the 2 day versus 1 day thing up to the two teams. You just need to let me know what you decide so I can get the items communicated to you properly.

In any case, the intent of MatchFishing was to make it a same day competition. I'd like to keep that spirit in tact.

Regardless, there needs to be some thought given to a rematch possibility(s) if there is a tie (no matter one day or two).

Red Ranger and River Musky talked it over. We are both going to be fishing on Saturday, Oct. 24th. So, we'll need our item that friday. Hopefully one of us will get one in the net to avoid a rematch.

Thanks, Big Mo!

OK then......the 2015 final is ON!

I will post your item choices here and via texts on Friday. Good luck!

*** let's hope there is a winner on Saturday. If not, there's a Halloween fishing opportunity or I'd be ok with going into Nov. if needed for a rematch.

We have a CHAMPION for 2015! Minnesota can claim the crown.

River Musky prevailed over Red Ranger this past weekend. Red Ranger had a tough go of it, so while it only took one fish for River Musky to win, they put it out of reach with four......37" / 35" / 35.5" / 41".

Stay tuned here for some end of season MatchFishing closure. I'll hopefully be able to wrap this up in the next couple weeks.

** If you enjoyed the season, please talk to other anglers about MatchFishing for 2016. I was a participant for several seasons about 8-10 years ago but this was my first go at being the point person. So, it will get better. If we have enough participants next season (hopefully more than this year) I expect to be doing this again. We'll tweak things a bit, make some improvements and have some friendly competition.
