| I want to coat a 10'' suic wood bait and wondered how much i would have to mix for first coat.Have a plastic cup that will hold 1fl oz,measured in 1/8oz graduations.How long before i can second coat. |

| For a Suick, a 1 0z. cup would be enough. Mix 1 oz of each component and for a Suick, I would apply it with a brush. You have to be careful not to add too much weight to a Suick because you might screw up the action. A few years ago I bought 8-10" Black Suicks that were on sale and repainted them. I brushed on one coat of Etex and let it hang from the tail and I've been using them like that for years.
If you want to put on a second coat, I would wait 48 hours before putting on a second to make sure it cures completely. |

Location: South-Central PA | Actually, you'll get a much better bond between coats if you recoat while the first coat is just barely tacky.

Location: WI | Jeremy is 100% right. Your best bet is to recoat etex with in 7-8 hours. This way the too chemically bond together. Because it is a two part epoxy there is no worry of sealling over a still curing coat. I have found 5-6 hours at 70 deg perfect. Still very tacky but hard enough to stay put while brushing the second. If you wait longer you will have to scuff before recoating.
As for mixing amount per bait, I use 5 ml of each component per bait. So for 5 baits I will mix 25ml each equalling 50ml or about 2 teaspoons. One thing I will say is mixing small amounts will greatly increase your chances for mis measuring. I use 1oz graduated cups made for epoxy and mix into a 1 oz portion cup |

Location: Money, PA | If you wait 48 hours, I would recommend scuff sanding between coats, but as Jeremy stated, the better option is to re-coat while the first coat is still a bit tacky and fresh. |

Location: Minnesota. | Olddog, also a fellow here (thanks Marling) kindly suggested that if you want to make the coating really nice and smooth-looking a little gentle heating with a heat gun to ease out the air bubbles makes things flow well and such.
I recently made 4 Suicks and left them bare wood. Still considering coating one or two just for the heck of it. Maybe the next run...I'll see.

Location: Waconia,MN | Be careful with a torch, to much heat will thin it out and cause out to drip of the bait. I usually let the bait sit on the spinner for about 10 minutes after coating before hitting out with a torch. Use a quick sweeping action, and don't hit the bait with the flame. |

| I guess I've been doing it wrong. I always had trouble eith fogging when I applied the second coat before the first one cured. Maybe I wasn't waiting long enough. I'll have to try it again. |

Location: South-Central PA | You may not being doing anything wrong. You may be having an issue with the environment the baits are curing in. If you are working in a cool environment with higher humidity (like a basement) then you are probably experiencing amine blush which looks like a white haze. If you keep the temps up and the humidity down, the issue should go away.
The only time I've had a fogging issue with epoxy was when I first started building rods and I didn't allow enough time for a snake skin inlay to dry on a rod and I epoxied over it while it was still damp underneath. The epoxy fogged in minutes and looked terrible. Lesson learned!

Location: WI | I would mix 10 ml of each part. Mix for one and a half to two minutes Then set a timer for six minutes. This time allows bubbles to rise from epoxy. Apply with a Half inch brush. Wait five minutes and lightly use a heat gun to pop any bubbles. Be careful.
Wait six hours and repeat
I about 5 mL to 5mL per bait but if your doing only one I would use 10 to 10 just to be safe |

How much depends on how thick of a coat you put on. I measure my epoxy by cc, not fluid oz so I can't help you there.
If your room is 70 degrees, you can recoat in 5-6 hours.
