I'm considering buying a used Calcutta TE through ebay. I have never used ebay, does anyone have words of wisdom when making such a purchase? Any idea what is a reasonable price? Lastly, how does the TE compare to the Conquest? Any help is greatly appreciated.

A lot of TE's on ebay have been used in saltwater. Depending on condition $250-350 for a 400te.

I wouldn't buy anything that was used near the coasts in the ocean, buy from the midwest. Two drain holes are the older model, four holes are newer models. I would bide my time and snap one up off the BST on this forum over the winter.

Yes, saltwater is a big concern.

I picked one up a few years ago and the person selling was honest in that his was never used in saltwater. I would ask the seller that question.

yeah, only buy if its from muskie territory. Only other guys that would use a 300/400te are saltwater guys.

The bass guys out west use em for those big swim baits too, I see a lot of them come out of California, Arizona and mention only freshwater use. Those would be good options, so of course it's just best to ask.

Just like anything on eBay, study the pics carefully. I've seen te reels with missing parts and bent handles. Makes you think what else is wrong with em

I Have purchased many items without problems, As I'm sure many of us on here have also done. What I would say is look at the pictures carefully,Enlarge them, ask questions, and use the option of paying after delivery...Ebay does have a excellent reputation for protecting the Buyer if you are not happy with your purchase..For example If an item you are buying is described as New, but when you receive it, It is obvious that it is Not New or is damagd or scratched when received. That is considered Not as Described and Ebay/Pay Pal will contact the seller for a refund, once you file a claim........Also if the reel was indeed used in saltwater does not make it a bad reel as long as it has been cleaned, rinsed, and serviced the TE series were made to be used in saltwater where Many others are NOT.....
