Posts: 348 | Need some help looking for advise or hearing. Im looking to replace my trolling motor finder up front. I need a gps an sonar an possibly down imaging built in.I was looking at the lowrance 7x chirp but all the reviews are horrible that ive been reading. Also checking out the Humminbird® 859ci HD Combo . Anyone have experience with any of these? Im looking to stay under $700 thanks

Posts: 32761 Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Just rigged a Helix SI unit on my X170T. GREAT sonar for a very good price. The SI and DI features are excellent, and the GPS flawless.

Location: Waukesha, WI, USA | I use my down imaging all the time. I feel I get a better picture if what is really below me. For clarification, I use mine at the dash. My terrova has the built in transducer.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | My down imaging seems weak on the helix 5 unit, really have a hard time seeing brush piles and flooded timber. Is this a transducer angle issue? The standard sonar and side imaging seem to both work well enough.

The standard sonar and side imaging seem to both work well enough. I would think it's a transducer angle issue, except that you say the SI is working well. Just a couple other thoughts - have you experimented with the color schemes, the contrast settings, etc.? This video might be worth a watch if you haven't already learned this stuff. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bs8dlOVHXJ8 Good luck.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | That's the best news I've heard all day! I love my helix 5 but wished there was an inexpensive 7" model, wish granted. I run a power drive so the networking is a non issue. Any idea on what the MSRP will be? If it's $700 or less for the SI/GPS combo then I'll be getting one sooner than later.

Heres the link for the si model, the msrp for the si is exactly $700, wish these came out before we bought our 5" models. http://www.basspro.com/Humminbird-HELIX-7-SI-GPS-Fishfinder-and-Cha...

Location: MN | When the Helix came out I heard word that they may release an ice fishing model. Has anyone heard anything else about that? It would make for a nice, fairly cheap, gps that can also serve as a back up flasher.
