Posts: 94 | I am looking into buying this reel...feedback please. It will either go on a 8'6'' sling blade or 9' predator, the idea is to throw double 10's and big rubbers.

Posts: 8702 | I've got the Winch and the 5.4:1. Big rubbers won't make much of a difference. But it's literally night and day cranking double 10's with the 5.4:1 vs the Winch. The winch wins hands down. I have to admit, though, the winch HAS cost me a few fish that hit out from the boat and swam right towards me. I just couldn't reel fast enough to catch up with them. That said, I'm still good to go after 8 hours throwing double 10's with the winch. I'm not sure I'd hold up all day with the 5.4:1. My suggestion, if possible is to actually spend a few hours with both of them and see what suits you.

Posts: 618 Location: Madison, WI | The 5.4:1 with the power handle will crank 10s pretty easy. The upside to the higher ratio is worth the small amount of extra effort. I also had my winch re-geared to 5.4 because it makes it a much more versatile reel. Unless you only want to use it for slow rolling big blades, get the 5.4.

Posts: 271 | I absolutely LOVE my winch for throwing slow moving topwaters like Hawg Wobblers and Creepers, so mine will stay 4:6-1 for 10s as well.......I'll deal with the slow bucktails for the advantages of the surface baits. Jaimy

Posts: 558 | Don't expect to burn blades with that reel. Solid reel, also it will cast rubber fine but to reel in the slack after pulling the rubber will take more work also. I have the high speed one and love it for everything. My 2 cents.

Posts: 1283 | 5.4 with the power handle makes 10s almost effortless to the point your not sure if the blades are spinning. I threw 10s for 4 hours yesterday and could have gone 10 more but the weather was kicking my ass so I left after boating my first ski of the year.

Posts: 2894 Location: Yahara River Chain | The Winch was too slow for me as well. I ended up swapping out the gears to a 6.4:1 and love that since I already had two 5.4s. For slow or 10s I use my 401TE.

Posts: 815 Location: Waukee, IA | The winch is way too slow for me. It pulls blades really easily but just doesn't have the burst speed that I like. I prefer the 5.4:1 for 10's
