| My neighbor has a 2008 Reata 186vs. Is a 2006 180vs basically the same boat? More importantly, would the ride be similar? I am interested in a Ranger that will handle big water well, will a 180vs do this?

Location: Green Bay, WI | You'd have to go to their archive catalogs and check the specs on each boat to know for sure. But the Reata and Angler hulls seem pretty similar from what I've seen, other than slight differences in the interior configurations.
In terms of big water applicability, that will depend more on you than the hull. I've seen a whole bunch of Angler and Reata hulls on Green Bay--so I wouldn't be afraid of either hull out there. I would prefer the 20' length, if only to get more room for trolling, and to bridge the wave crests a bit better, but had absolutely no problem with a Tyee 1850 out there.

| The hull of the 186/180 is not the same as the 1850/1860. It's not a true deep V and more of a bass style hull. Will it handle big water? Probably. But won't be much fun if it's rough. Mine (1850) handles the rough stuff well, but I wouldn't think the 186/180 are in the same class. |

| The 180 for sure isn't the same hull. I looked at the 186 photos again and it's close, if not the same as the 1850/1860. It might just be the different interior on that boat. The 180 and 186 appear to have very different hulls, with the 180 being more bass style and the 186 looking more like a deeper V. |

| You're exactly right. An engineer from Ranger just called me and explained it to me. The 180 is more of a bass boat hull for sure. Not the best in big water. |

Location: St Paul, Minnesota | I fish decently big water and have fished in pretty rough conditions (windy Leech Lake) out of a 1860, we extended the back casting deck and can fish 3 pretty well in most fishable conditions. I think (though I could be wrong) the Reata has the a shortened front casting deck, it looks like they move the console more towards the front, which is less ideal when running across larger rollers/crashers. |

Location: Green Bay, WI | How much difference is there between the Angler and Fisherman hulls? I know the floor plan is quite different, obviously. But is there a big difference in the hull design itself?
We were planning a trip to visit the wife's sister in Arkansas, and we're supposed to leave yesterday. The trip got cancelled though, so it's a no-go...which is a bummer, as they live about 60 miles down the road from the Ranger factory, and I was planning to go there for a tour. I was going to ask them about the Angler vs Fisherman hulls, and also about the whole VS series versus FS series thing.
