I'm looking into getting a 2002 lund 1675 explorer tiller with a 75 merc. Any ideas on how these handle bigger lakes? what do you think top speed would be with 2 ppl and gear? Would this be a decent muskie boat or should I look else where for something bigger?

Location: With my son on the water | I know a guy who runs in some really big water with this rig but he is very experienced.
I would expect you would get 30+ with a 75.
Bigger isn't always better?

That layout is very similar in many ways to the 2005 and newer alumacraft navigator 165 series.
With a 75hp tiller on it, I would bet you would be looking at around 36 to 38 mph. It will handle bigger water just fine. Bigger lakes like Leech, Winnie, Mille Lacs, etc. are definitely worthy of the boat's use, although you will definitely want to watch the wind when it starts to blow 15 mph or so.
In the waves, the boat handles very well, given you are not over-driving the situation.

Location: Northern Illinois | The way I think. Bigger gives you more storage space and possibly a dryer ride. I found a lund explorer 1675 2002 boat and merc 75 efi with minn kota pdv2 and a lowrence gps depth finder for got what model. They are asking 8500$ is that a good price? |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've been fishing out of the old style (year 2000) Alumacraft Navigator 165 Tiller for about 6 years or so. I fish smaller water mostly: 800-5,000 acres for the most part. It fishes 2 people very well. 3 is possible but they should all be experienced casters if slinging musky baits with big hooks.
It takes the waters I fish very well. Some of the open, round lakes of 3,000+ acres can get pretty rough to fish in with the boat bobbing like a cork, but I haven't been in anything that made me nervous yet. Well, one day I experienced a downdraft with winds I'd guess to be well over 60 mph that knocked many area trees down. That was scary but actually the worst was sitting at rest waiting for the dock to clear. For the most part though, the boat will easily run in waves that are not fun to try to stand and fish in.
Anyway, I think that boat will fish a couple guys well and take on some pretty good size water if you pay attention. I think the next jump to fishing 3 truly comfortably and handling just about anything Mille Lacs dishes out is a whole different league and price range of boat (20 foot glass multispecies and 3 times the price).
My Navigator has a 50 4 stroke and does about 32 with a light load and just me. I'd guess you'd easily do 35 with you and a heavy load of gear. A couple guys you'd probably still be 32-35. VMS is the man when it comes to those numbers though.
I usually cruise at a little over 20. Fast enough for most lakes I fish.

| Owned the same boat for 7 years then upgraded. With a loaded up boat and myself I got about 33 MPH out of it. In terms of handling big water it did fine but use good judgement - I got caught on the big pond when it was blowing and that was not a good experience. Overall a great boat. |

Location: Northern Illinois | Yeah its either the lund 1675 explorer or a lund 18ft pro v tiller w/ some sort of 90hp tiller. I'm looking for something for around 15k max. I like the bigger tuffy's and warriors. |

| I'm with the guy above... I'd be more worried about the trailer than the boat. Make sure it's in good shape and worthy of the boat going on it. Nothing worse than trailer issues on the highway doing 70mph. They're a PITA. |

Location: WI | I fish out of a 18ft tourney pro and think it's almost the perfect size. Still get decent mileage trailering and takes big water pretty good. That being said I fish Winnebago and the bay a lot and often wouldn't mind having something alittle bigger or glass. I know guys do it with smaller rigs but for 15 grand you can get a pretty nice 18 footer. Especially a tiller |

Location: West Metro, MN | $8500 sounds like a pretty good price as long as the trailer and outboard are in good shape. I have a 2002 Lund Mr Pike 16 which is similar in size to that Explorer. It will handle just about anything you can safely go out in. A 16-17 foot boat is great for launching and loading by yourself and fishes great with 2 guys, but if you plan to ever fish 3 guys out of it you will wish you had a bigger boat. |
