Trolling motor seems to do fine pulling a 16 foot boat around on calm days, but any wind or waves really seem to slow it down. I tried pulling the prop off, but I think the shear pin is bent so would smashing the prop with a hammer work? Does anyone make a rebuild kit or is there anything I can check to see what might be wrong?

I think you probably just need a bigger motor. A 42 pound trolling motor will probably struggle on most any 16 foot boat in wind. I have a 70 pound on my 16 foot Navigator and it has always worked well, no matter the wind. I'd go at least 55 if you are able to switch motors out.

Way to little power I have a stock 55 and will be going to 80 as soon as I can.

Agreed, the 40-55 lb models are really only big enough for 14' boats and under. I've got a 70 on my 16' boat

Ive got a 55 on my 17ft bass boat seems to do pretty good. Only down side is you have to be on full power when its really windy.
