Location: Grand Forks ND | I have been running HDS Gen 1 units and using the Lakemaster chips in 1 foot contours for the two lakes I fish the most, Lida and Detroit in Minnesota.
I just bought an HDS Gen 2 in which I cannot use my Lakemaster chip in anymore, but I see the new Lowrance Lake Insight maps do not have Lida or Detroit listed as High-Deff lakes.
These are two very popular lakes.....someone must have the HD maps like the old Lakemasters. What is everyone using for Western Minnesota?

Location: Otsego, MN | I would buy the Lowrance insight chip and the navionics chip. Some lakes are better than others, depends on the lake and the chip. Or with your Gen 3 make your own map. |

| Go to the Navionics web app they give you the ability to preview lake mapping. http://webapp.navionics.com/?lang=en
When you get to the lake that interests you zoom in and click on the sonar icon on the lower left for the High Def SonarCharts view which is available on Hotmaps Platinum, which is what I would rec. and it has the High Def SonarCharts. The ability to toggle off the high def is sometimes nice to declutter the screen for navigation the main objects will still be there but not so much clutter

| Insight Pro will work find in a Gen 1 unit. HD is just shaded relief and doesn't display well on smaller screens or when you zoom way in.
Curious as to why the OP said he cannot use the Lakemaster chip anymore. It should work fine if it worked in your older unit. |

| I have a Gen 1 HDS with 2012 Lowrance Lake Insight Pro and I fish the lakes you're talking about often. Big Detroit, Little Detroit, Deadshot Bay, North Lida, and South Lida are all mapped very accurate and have 1 foot contours. I've messed around with the Navionics phone app on N and S Lida... It has 1 foot contours for both but the accuracy is a joke, not even close. It's funny if you compare the Navionics phone and Lake Insight versions of the North Lida map, you'd swear they are two different lakes. |

Location: Nowheresville, MN | Lakemaster version 7 works in all gen 2, including Touch. They can still be found if you look hard enough. If you find two, let me know. I'd like a spare. The purple contour lines in the Lowrance chips are not my thing... |

Location: Lake Elmo, MN | The chip and mapping business is a mess these days. Too many partnerships with trolling motor companies and too much emphasis on "make your own".
I'd kill for a good NW Ontario chip that had Canadian Lake of the Woods for Lowrance HDS10 Gen 2. The NW section of LOW is virtually unmapped and looks like it will stay this way. |

| PSAGuy, I agree that area of LOW is not mapped real well as in 1 ft contours, but Navionics Platinum has the basic map with the majority of the hazards (didn't want to say all because I am sure there are some unmapped) on it. The area we fish on LOW is not mapped by Lakemaster and the chip is completely useless as in there are NO contour lines period. The Navionics on the other hand at least has some mapping while it may not be 1 foot contours it is certainly a trip saver.
The Lowrance Insight Pro chip has 1 foot contours within a half mile of the island we camp on. After that its nothing. Glad I have all these chips because there is usually one that works on any given body of water.
The make your own map feature is something I will be using this summer when we are up there. To actually pay someone to map these areas has got to be super expensive. These companies all have a good base of lakes to start with and allowing the consumers to expand it is less expensive for them in the long run. |

Location: Lake Elmo, MN | Yes......The main area I want mapped starts at Wiley Point and goes north towards Kenora. There are key spots I'll map myself now I guess starting in June. I'll upload these and then have them for use. If you run a line due east from Wiley Point and take it past yellow girl, , all the way to Long Bay, north of that line looks like what Columbus must have stared at on his maps....nothing but white.
Problem is, I fish all that stuff !!!

| PSAGUy, You are VERY close to where we camp! By water I suppose its 2 or 3 miles maybe. I know we are real close to Wiley point, but only being in that area the last 2 years I am not brave enough to venture over there! LOL
