Hey guys,

Thinking of making a trip up to the st Lawrence for a couple of days for a multi-species trip. I primarily want to focus on muskies, but also would like to break up the trip with some pike/bass fishing as my dad is getting up there and has a hard time casting for muskies from morning til night. Does anyone have any suggestions in the 1000 islands area that I should focus on for any of the above mentioned species? I imagine it will be much like fishing the river here at home, just on a much larger scale, but also acknowledge that it is a huge body of water and a little help would go a long way. Please PM me if you would rather not post here. Thanks in advance,

Lenny

You will never get people to give up spots on the Larry on a forum like this. They are way to few and far between to be giving away.

Do some searching...there is lots of info online if you dig yourself...especially 1000 islands area.

I didn't want their spots, just a starting point. I wouldn't expect someone to give up their honey hole. It's just that the St. Lawrence is such a large body of water and I figured it wouldn't hurt to have a few pointers from some knowledgeable members on this board.

As far as info goes, I was able to find some in regards to bass/pike but not much in the way of muskie fishing.

Thanks for the response.

Lenny

Very tough crowd !! It's as if you asked for the GPS reading, which lure to use and what time of day to fish.

The Larry is 600 miles long and will take a long time to cast. Most troll later in the year looking for a monster coming in from Lake Ontario. In November and December unless your a lot tougher than me you need a covered boat that will handle big waves with a propane heater. Don't come here looking for numbers. Dale McNair and Julie fished a week last year for one big fish. Mike Lazarus calls it the Wishing Well. I go there every chance I get but I'm only an hour away.

Thousand islands, look at maps, find a good spot and work that small area and keep working it. They are there, just have to work for them. It's not a numbers river....

Oh yeah Lenny usually long line trolling due to water clarity I'm told. Lots of big fish for sure, almost like St. Clair for you a guide would certainly shorten the learning curve. I have not fished the place in a long time, as a kid my father would take me there every other weekend weather permitting he fished Walleye I opted for Pike. A small craft can get in trouble there quick also due to weather and waves. Canadains like to know you are there if you fish their water. Steve Warner was up there recently he is a member of your MI chapter he may be a great source of information also. Good luck !!

Canadian spots.40 acre shoal, Jackstraw shoal, Wolfe Island cut area, Black Ant area, Stave Island shoal, Old Channel behind Grenadier. NY spots. Round Island to Pine Island, Channel downstream from Grindstone east of eel bay, Old channel near Kring point from Goose bay to Perry shoal, American Island area and the sand bar at Ogdensburg are the more traditional migration spots.

When we fish big water like this, we try to get a guide on the first day, we have gps tracks on our IPhones, we just turn it on at the dock and at the end of the day you have some spots to go to if you need it.

I wanted to thank everyone who responded and gave me pointers. I have no expectations of multiple fish days, and understand that I may not even see a fish during my trip, but anything that can tip the odds in my favor are appreciated. I imagine there are resident fish in the river year around, but when do the fish usually start their fall movements into the river?

I have a Jet as well as an 18' tracker targa with a 4 stroke merc. I use the Tracker for all of the big water.
