Has anyone ever fished the Lac du Flambeau Chain? Who is the best guide out there?

i'd recommend Jeff Van Remortal, Mark Lijewski or Mark Gillich ... not sure if Lijewski is guiding this year or not.

I fished it a couple of times a few years ago. First, I don't like clear water. Having said that cabbage is hard to find. Some on the east end of Fence Lake which is mostly a huge bowl. I hear there are ciscos that school on Fence. A lot of water to try to figure out in a couple of short trips so I won't go back at my age.

However, if you visit the Torches restaurant in Lac du Flambeau you will see an amazing array of hugies that were pulled out of the chain which tells me that it might be worth a shot.....which is why I went in the first place. I'm just not as good at this as some others are I guess.

Be aware of vandalism at the launches.

Try Rick Domini if he is still guiding. Doug Smith from Rollin & Helens would also be a good choice.

Be aware of vandalism at the launches.

With some of the stuff that has gone on over the Internet this winter I would suggest being pretty cautious at the launches with vehicles....

I fished there alot in the late 50's and caught my 1st muskie on Big Crawling Stone. I use to fish with Louie St Germaine as a kid. Caught a 47.5 and a 53 with him.

He really liked Crawling Stone, Pokegma and Flambeau. His favorite was White Sand!
I heard some guides are reluctant to fish there due to vandalism issues in the parking areas.

Doug Smith is a good one out there along with those that Sled mentioned. Can be a humbling chain, but worth it when they're going.

I'll add another recommendation for Doug Smith. Usually can reach him through Rollies and Helens.

Some of the chain is big deep clear lakes with little weed growth (i.e. Fence). Others are a little darker with more weeds (i.e. Pokegama). Depends what structure you are looking for. Find the ciscoes in the fall on Fence, you got a chance.

From what I've heard during other discussions is that the big launch at the campground on Hwy 47 is the only safe one. It's near the channel between Pokegama and Flambeau. Right in town, well lit, plenty of parking, 7 or 8 bucks to launch. I think Doug uses this launch.

Of all the launches on this chain, the main popular ones are usually problem free. But with the crazies around, it's best to be in at dawn and out by late afternoon at some. White Sand is the spookiest but haven't had issue there yet in all the times I go (knock on wood). Little Trout, don't go there unless you really want to get into trouble..... or go there if the vehicle isn't yours

Best launches by far is the campground in town on 47, and then the one on Little Crawling Stone off 70 west and Silver Beach Rd. Motor from there wherever you go. Homeowners nearby are very courteous as is the lake association folks who always monitor it.

Muskies? I just bass fish the hell out of this chain.

Just curious, but is the saftey of my car and equipment really in danger on the rez lakes? I have never parked at their launches but have seriously considered those lakes as fisheries...

Yes and No.
You'll know it's a shady boat landing if the map booklets report of vandalism (on some it's noted)..... if you see non-fishermen "chilling out" at them..... or if you see a mess of beer cans splattered all over the ramp. Those would be my indicators to be on the watch.

IMO much better musky fisheries are elsewhere and in other towns.

Does anyone ever stop to fish Interlaken? I never hear any chatter about that one and theres not a lot of info out there on it. Any sturcture there? Or stick to the other lakes of the chain?

Thanks!
