I'm heading to LOTW in a few and had a thought. My uncle is suffering from stage 4 cancer and this might be his last trip musky fishing with us. I'm trying to figure out a way for him to catch a few fish without wearin him out too much. He tuffed it out last year after a round of chemo but it really took its toll. I was thinking he could drag around some live bait if it was legal. On the regulations page it said suckers were legal bait but I doubt there would be any available in the morson area. I couldn't find anything about using game fish as bait though. Does anyone know if it's legal to use perch as bait up there?

Rick:

Nestor Falls Bait and Tackle has them in the fall (aways from Morson). Not sure about now. Look them up on the web and check. Don't know of any place else.

Thanks Doug I'll give them a call. Might be worth the ride over if it makes the trip better for my uncle.

Angler's Pro Shop (also in Nestor Falls) has had them in the past as well. New owners this spring from what I understand so a call would be wise before you run over there.

You are correct about it being illegal to use gamefish as bait in Ontario.

Possibly he could drag a slow moving top water like a hog wobbler or creeper, while the rest of you cast. You might be suprised at what he catches. One of you could make a long cast at the start and hand him the rod. Also vertical jigging a bondy, ripping dog, or fuzzy duzit works too if he can do that.

One more thing, both dragging the top water and vertical jigging can be accomplished by putting the rod in a rod holder next to him.

Thanks guys. Got some suckers located if we want them. He's been going the last ten years or so and is usually good for a couple fish a trip. Would do a lot better but just can't convert in the 8. Gets frustrating for him on a normal year watching us rack up numbers when he can't. Last year he walleye fished a lot of the week and I think that's his plan along with more trolling...

I would have him jig up and down a bulldawg or something similar.

Was at Nestor Falls Bait and Tackle last fall and the lady said T.Rizzo bought suckers from them all summer. So they must have them all season.

Don't jig a Fuzzy Duzzit, it doesn't work on LOW!!!

I always have some bulldawgs, fuzzys and bondys in the boat so We have no shortage of jigging baits. I like jigging those walleye reefs to help out the walleye guys anyway.
