I'm trying to get setup to do some lure work this winter so I don't LOSE MY MIND due to cabin fever.

Anyhow I have this offbrand double action airbrush. It is an ATD 6849. It isn't a gravity feed brush though.
This is the air brush.... http://www.sears.com/atd-advanced-tool-design-model-atd-6849-air/p-...

Is this thing going to serve me well enough?
I've also got a cheap Badger non gravity feed airbrush that is a single action.

I also have a Badger 80-2 airbrush compressor to use. Hopefully this will serve it's purpose as intended because it is MUCH quieter than my full-size compressor.

What else am I missing?
This might be a stupid question but do you need any special filter when using the airbrush compressors?

I'll add any more questions I have about getting set up to this thread

I don't know anything about that airbrush. But I use a couple Iwata neo gravity feed airbrushes and they work great for me. Hobby lobby has them for around $65 and they have a 40% off coupon on their website. I know a quite a few people use the neo on here. Good luck!

I'll give this one a shot, but plan on picking up the iwata brush over winter also.
Picked up one of the "Helping Hands" from Harbor Freight today. They have them on sale for $2.99 right now.

And while there I pointed out a wood lathe and the wife seemed on board w/that idea. Just need to read up on if those table top harbor freight wood lathes are any good or not.

EDIT: Looks like if I want a lathe the best bet is to buy used, and avoid the H/F units.

I never used one either, but know that you can get proven quality air-brushes for less. Don't forget you'll need a compressor too. I've seen Iwata combos, not the top of the line brushes, but even their mid-range brushes are great, anyway, combos for like $150 on sale.

To be honest, I'd save a little extra cash and go with Iwata...they are the best hands down IMO....I have the HP-CS version and I've painted a lot of baits in a few years with it and its still sprays like new (gotta take care of them).

To each their own ideas but I have used nothing but Badger now for over 20 years and they are all siphon feeds. I have 150's , 250's , 350's and a couple crescendo 175's. They all have lifetime warranty for repair or replacement. I pay shipping when I send them in and they pay shipping back to me. I have painted tens of thousands of lures in my day and am still happy with my Badgers.
I spray lacquer, poly, and even glitter with them. Fine lines to large spray, doesn't matter, can do it all. When I painted commercial we had 72 airbrushes on line , all badgers.
But that is just MY two cents.

I'm going to give this one a try because I already have it. (Friend gave it to me)

If I have issues though I switch to something else....

If you lose your mind, it will be close to where you need it when you find it next Spring, and just think of all the wear and tear you will have saved it....
