cave run legend - 1/16/2013 1:43 PM Ebay was more expensive for me. For a 150yd roll of 80lb on ebay was 25+ shipping, amaOn was 20 with frwe shipping. you must not have looked very good. been able to buy 80lb 150 yard spools on ebay for $20 shipping since the line came out. can get 300yard spools for under $36 shipped every day of the week and 1500 yard spools for $145 shipped.

Posts: 50 | It bothers me that some of you guys can drop $50,000 or more for a boat and ride and can't pay an extra $5 to support your local tackle shop. These guys are part of the fun of this sport and they need our support.

Posts: 258 Location: Mayville, WI | longbomb: I understand where you're coming from, but I bet they shopped around for their boat too and bought wherever they could get the best deal (local or not - I got mine out of state). Same for buying lures online, it's just the way it is now with easy access to most anything online. There's things the local places have that the internet will never have and vice versa - both have pluses and minuses.

Posts: 130 Location: Duluth, MN | What I really love is how a lot of the mom and pop stores don't feel the need to be competitive. It's not all of them, but many of them think that they have you by the shorthairs due to lack of competition where most of the good fishing is. I always try to by locally when they are reasonable. You also have to realize, that many of the places selling on eBay and Amazon are just small mom and pop shops trying new ways to make money.

Location: Latitude 41.3016 Longitude 88.6160 | be careful on Ebay buying spools of line not in a box for cheaps, a few years back someone was selling some cheap line in place of Power Pro and it was junk. I buy from my local guys and call it a day. Also don't forget to flip over your braid on a reel, braid will last for years.

Posts: 296 Location: Not where I want to be! | You can buy your bulk spools, or anything for that matter, from the independent musky shops! If they don't have it, they can get it! May cost you a few pennys more. I see everyone whining about dealers not attending "the shows"? Well what do you expect. Too many people are buying on the cheap and buying from mass retailers. When all the independents are out of business, and sooner or later they will be, let me know what kind of customer service you get from the ebays of the world.

Posts: 130 Location: Duluth, MN | eBay didn't sell me anything. It was an independent tackle shop that has realized that they need to adapt to continue to succeed. Any business that doesn't utilize the resources they have available will eventually fail, and they have nobody to blame but themselves.

Posts: 8 | I didn't say why I made this post because I didn't want to bias the replies. I bought I 300'spool of 80# lb test made by Spiderwire at Bas Pro and it was defective. I sent to to Spiderwire and they replaced it, no questions asked but I was lucky to discover the defect before I wwent fishing so Idon't want to get any more at baspro because it might be the same lot. There is always the possiblitity that someone swithed the spools in the store so they could get 80# for the 8 or 10# price so it may not be defective. I am trying to find another source. I am buying another reel this week and will need some line.

Posts: 196 | I just picked up a 500 yard spool of 80# Power Pro for $49 shipped off of Amazon. I would love to support my local stores, IF they had any line. And trying to get them to order it is like slamming your weiner in a door. Yeah, it's effective but it hurts like H E ll

Small retailers, 'Mom and Pop stores' as you put it, deal with overhead online sources do not. Smaller customer base, longer hours, and someone to check out the customer the entire time they are open. A storefront, merchandising, heat, lights, employees, etc ain't cheap. Larger retailers spread the cost across a wider array of goods and deeper selections. If you don't care about holding the product in your hand, and buying it on the spot without shipping delays, buy online. But don't be so critical of the small retailers until you do a bit of research into the cost of doing that kind of business VS the online guys.

Posts: 130 Location: Duluth, MN | I didn't say anything critical about small retailers. All I said is that it is their responsibility to to stay competitive, not the consumers responsibility to keep them in business out of some sense of obligation. I shop many small businesses and will continue to do so. Many of those businesses also do business online and get my business over some of the local businesses because they stay competitive.
