Sounds like muskie fishermen have a champion in Ruud. They need to get behind her financially, time to put the money where the mouth is. Give up buying one Head Lock and send the money to her campaign committee.
Article nails the real reasons for the push against muskies.

Great article and appreciate the author shedding light on the bigger issue at hand, hamstringing the DNR's ability to regulate and maintain public resources, which will ultimately benefit rich property owners.

Do these anti Muskie guys run unopposed for re election? Wonder what their future uponents think of the topic? If not anti Muskie they should be supported. I have never contributed to a candidate but would send the price of a headlock if they weren’t anti Muskie

I live about a mile outside of his district. I hate politics but I'd run against him if I was able. I believe Billy Boy has hinted this is his last year, let's hope that's the case.

Rep. Laurie Halverson ‘gets it’. Here’s her response to me sent this morning. Dear Brian, Thank you for contacting me to share your thoughts on Muskie management in our lakes. I appreciate your input on this important issue – especially given your background as an avid fisherman. The legislation you are referring to in your e-mail is HF 3930, which would authorize county boards to decide if and how muskies are stocked. I agree that this proposal is not a well thought out one as the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has the proper resources and knowledgeable staff to make science-based decisions about Muskie stocking levels – not county boards. This moratorium will damage the economies in our state that rely on Muskie anglers. As you may know, the moratorium language from HF 3930 has been included in the latest version of the Senate Environment and Natural Resources Omnibus Bill (SF 3141), but not the House version (HF 3502). It is my hope that as conference committees meet in the near future, a clean omnibus bill will pass through without the moratorium language included. Please be assured I will continue to monitor this issue closely, and will certainly reach out to you if I have further questions relating to Muskie management. Thanks again for contacting me. I welcome hearing from you anytime. Sincerely, Laurie Halverson State Representative Representative Laurie Halverson District 51B, Eagan 233 State Office Building St. Paul, MN 55155 651-296-4128

My State Senator came back with this... thankfully not a surprise. As she has heard from me over the last few years she has been very consistent with her messages.

Sen. Melisa Franzen

to me

I want to thank you for reaching out to me regarding Minnesota’s Department of Natural Resources.
I am committed to upholding scientific insight when it comes to fishery management and will be critical of legislation that aims to jeopardize that.
Thank you again for reaching out to me and please don’t hesitate to contact me with any other concerns you may have.
Best Regards,

Melisa

State Senator Melisa Franzen

I got the exact same message from Julie Sandstede, word for word!

That the two reps are sending the same response may well be a good thing. It appears they have a uniform position. May be that leadership has said, yeah we don't like this moratorium idea, and here is how we will approach it. You know that it is not just one legislator who opposes it.

Totally logical. Package special interest policy garbage into a spending bill b/c that’s what spending bills are for. Of course, those elected officials w/o any skin in the game aren’t going to vote against b/c they want their special interest garbage in that bill too. Oh and if it gets vetoed, just send it on through with a different bill but just tie it to something the governor can’t veto.

The real problem here is that government is allowed to operate like this. If a senator was trying to incorporate the mandatory introduction of muskies to 15 new waters to this spending bill, this site would be lit up with people to contact to support it. For or against, Democrat or republican, government should not work like this.

raftman has completely nailed it!!!
If this complete piece of garbage legislation is going to be tied to some spending bill that can't be vetoed then what happens?? Is there such a thing as a line item veto?
