Haven't competed in anything for many years. Like many I was very competitive in my younger years but now winning is secondary to having fun it seems.

My problem, I think I would like to compete in a fishing tournament. I'm a closet Muskie fan and the Vermilion Mega looks interesting. I know I would have nearly zero chance to win and would be donating my entry to others. My other issue is there is no way I could stand in the boat and cast all day. I'm more of a troller. I don't want to fish the PMTT and the MI on Leech might be a bit much. Are there any tourneys in Minnesota that allow single competitors vs a team format?

Sorry for the rambling question.

Any insight would be great.

Check out the the Frank Schneider tournament put on by the twin cities chapter of muskies Inc. Weekend after labor day. Many lakes to choose from in the Walker, Bemidji, Longville area. Individual tourny, with trolling allowed. Put a 40"fish in the boat and you're entered in the grand prize drawing.

There are tons of individual tournaments, pmtt and the leach lake shootout are the only team tourneys I know of. Check out Muskies Inc chapter websites to find tourneys. Many are open to non members. Another option would be joining Muskies Inc ($45/yr) and fishing in a league. The leagues are competitive and usually are 4-6 hours per night 1/wk

NEVER to Old !

If you want to get a true feeling of Professional Tourney Fishing, the PMTT or Mega PMTT will show you that.
Very well run and you will meet some of the nicest people in the Muskie Kingdom....
Don't be intimated be some of the people that fish Tournaments. Most are really Cool, and extremely down to Earth.
Also you could fish by yourself and troll, but a partner is usually 50% better than fishing by yourself.
As mentioned, the Frank Snyder is also a Great event to get your feet wet in. Very Cool people at this event to.

Fish the pmtt! I did the last vermilion one and had a blast! But yeah, you won’t win with an attitude like that

My attitude stems from accepting reality and also the fact i've never fished Vermilion for Muskie. lol

Thanks for all the replies, i'll look in to some of the suggestions.

There’s a great future for you in tournaments you may be missing. It’s not all about winning. I could point out a person who hasn’t won a thing for years, and yet remains immensely popular, an interesting and widely followed web poster. Yes, there’s a certain rugged manliness there, an unmistakable sex appeal that shines through the scars of aging, but nothing you couldn’t duplicate with a few sit-ups. Seriously, you aren’t donating your entries to others, you are merely paying admission to a great entertainment venue. You don’t have to be Derrick Jeter to be at a Yankee game, but on a given day in musky fishing, you can hit a homer while the big sticks strike out. C’mon, you know you wanna do it!

The Bemidji/Cass chapter of Muskies Inc hosts a 1-day tournament every June where each person competes individually. And there's a strong trolling bite on those lakes in the early summer.
Sounds perfect for you. June 16th this year.

I'll second that Bemidji-Cass tournament. It is very well run and the trollers usually win it. Entry fee is very reasonable.
