Can someone explain why it seems a pike recovers faster or is less affected by being caught compared to a musky of say the same size? Seems like pike go right back as if little happened and musky need love before releasing.

Pike seem to give up quicker and probably why they recover faster.

I think sometimes most of the damage goes on unseen. Musky generally are much larger (so they can be expected to fight harder) thus more prone to fatigue.

My thought is this is due to there higher ability to rid themselves of lactic acid build up. Pike have the ability to live in water with lower dissolved oxygen content than muskies so they have adapted ways to thrive there and subsequently help them revive quicker during release.
