| Trying to get some opinions on a good size jon boat. Looking for a boat that 2 sometimes 3 people can stand in and cast without the boat rocking. Plan to use the boat on small electric motor only lakes and river fishing. Already have a larger boat for the bigger lakes. Thinking about a Tracker riveted flat bottom jon 15' length and 60" beam. Is there anything out there I should look at? Would like to keep it under $2,000.
Appreciate It,

Location: Rhinelander | Mine is an alumacraft 1648 NCS mod-v , 70" wide at gunnels.
Without trailer should be $2k or less new.

Location: oswego, il | 60" beam would not have a wide bottom. The problem with Jon boats are the bottoms are quite narrow for their beams. Would like to see a Jon boat with a bottom closer in width to the beam like some v bottom boats. 70" will be tippy with three, I would look for something close to 80" wide and 17ft long. |

| I would say get a v bottom jon, I had a 14' that I would take anywhere it was very stable but sat high enough to go in some small rivers. This was a semi v. |

Location: Mauston, Wisconsin | Go to WalleyeFirst and ask some of the Mississipppi river rats for a recommendation. As ToddM said wider is better. Flats can be a rough ride, so a modified V front, wide flat is probably what you want - 16-17' is good for two people.....
If I were looking for a Jon boat, it would be this one -> hybrid 62"

BTW - Todd, I have fished muskies out of a 10' x 41" flat - now that was tippy, especially on hooksets.
Have fun!

Location: one foot over the line | ToddM is correct, that 60" beam will probably have a 48" floor, which might not be too bad if it were a welded boat. Welded boats are quite a bit heavier than riveted, plus side of a heavier boat would be that they would be more stable however would drain batteries down sooner. Pros and cons of a riveted boat would be the exact opposite if same size boats were compared, the riveted boats are typically less expensive also. A 17' with an 80" beam with a mod-v riveted would be a great rig. There might be some of them around different dealerships along the Mississippi river. |
