Location: Poynette WI. | I've been making my own bucktails the last couple years and have some pretty good luck using them as well. I'm thought I would share some of them with the rest of the musky world today and leave them open for some feed back.
Nevermind all my pictures are to large to add to this site and havent been able to figure out how to make the file small enough to send.

Location: Central Wisconsin | Open up Microsoft paint. Once it is open you click on the file tab and then click open. This should pop open another tab that you can then click on your photo. Where ever it is saved, (easiest if saved on desktop). Once you open it the photo will appear on paint. The next thing to do is click on the resize button. Another tab will open that says resize and skew. Next step is to click on the pixels button. I am assuming it will be a higher number for the horizontal and vertical section. Click on the horizontal section and delete the number in box. Then type in a number around 500 and hit enter. This should make the picture small enough. Next go back to the main paint page and save the image. Try uploading the picture then, if it still doesn't work just keep making the number of pixels smaller and smaller until it works. Hopefully that helps. |

Location: Lake "y" cause lake"x" got over fished | Just download 'photo editor' on your smart phone, there is a re size option on that app. Mine usually have to be 0.3 Mega pixels or less to work. Images need to be 100kb or less in order to be posted. Usually I will edit the photo, save it, and email it to myself, but before actually sending the email I will check what the KB's are on the email attachment. If it is more than 100 KBs I will then go back and tweak it till it's under 100 KBs. Once you send it to yourself. Download it right from your inbox. It should then it let you post the pictures anywhere you want on this forum. |
|
|
|
Location: Oswego, IL | You can also take the photo and email it to yourself, normally its asks what size you want to email it as, then email your self, open your email on the computer save the file. (At least the IPhone does it that way) No sizing software needed on either device |

Location: Poynette WI. | I used a friends inhaler on some back waters with a tail spinner last year for the first time and smashed some pike on it. the green/black/brown tail listed above has it and has been a very good bait for me. I make them so I can take them on and off the oring, that one I actually attached it to the oring and shrinked wrapped it to the treble. Loven the trailer blades lately!!!! |

Location: Northern Illinois | Nice spinner baits Fishfinder. How do those saddle hackle feathers
hold up for you after fishing a few times? I've always shied away from
the marabou baits feeling they don't hold up to long. I use to tie flies
for trout fishing so I can appreciate the work tying those up. Good job. |

Location: Poynette WI. | The hackle feathers hold up great to be honest. you may loose a feather here and there if your pulling it through a lot of weeds or brush or get hung up. It's true the marabou can get beat up fairly easy in the same situtuations. Catching fish on them is probably the roughest of all (great problem to have). I put a little extra on mine because i know that some are going to get ripped off eventually. They hold up a lot better than i thought they would of. The other nice thing is i make my own so i can always repair them if they do get worn out. I also tie them on throttle cable and if i have to i can cut the wire and through a new skirt on and it's as good as new for a fraction of the price. I repair alot of old and beat up lures for guys all the time. |

Location: Poynette WI. | I made that mistake once, but I used it for the majority of a tinsel bait. I'm hoping that having the small amount inside the tail and not very long will help, I didnt use that much and normally wouldnt but i wanted some red flash and didnt have anything else at the time. now i'm wishing that i wouldve just waited. Do you think that much will be a problem, I made that for someone else and dont have anywhere to cast it first and last thing i want to do is send of a rats nest. |

After orange produced so well up north last weekend I decided to deck this one with bright double 8's for a friend of mine who will be visiting the same area in a couple weeks.

Location: Poynette WI. | Thanks Targa, the crazy parrot looking bucktail is one i made last year with a bunch of left over packages of material. Thats a good size bucktail and may need sometime to soak before all the feathers are wet, I figured that minnesota has some big waters/muskie so what the heck. it has#8 fluted blades, 7/0 hook, 1/2 oz egg sinker and alot of skirt, I left room for someone to add an additonal front hook if they'd like too. I've been getting a lot of request for smaller bucktails this year and have been using them more often myself. the smaller one has #7 black nickel indiana blades 1/4oz weight, blk white marabou, a few black hackle feathers with dyed pearl peacock flashabou mixed throughout. Feel free to keep me in mind for up coming events. Big Worms bait shop will be carrying my lures and if they do not have something you like, they have my number on speed dial! Good luck to all anglers fishing the event. |

I've watched the quality of his work get better with everyone he does and nothing beats sharing the same passion with your own Brother! Nice job Levi! Location: Poynette WI. | I have had some requests for some spinner baits this summer and finally decided to pick up some forms. I used the firetiger the last two time out and was having a blast banging it off the timber and the fish were hammering it. Lost quite a few before finding a trailer hook in my box that helped finally hook a couple. I need to find a better trailer hook though for the future, any suggestions? I've been fishing these in stained water on the Wis. River and the Copper blades have been working the best all year on both Bucktails and now Spinners. Also for guys just getting started building your own, the black skirt and double orange bucktails has been a go to thats fairly easy to build and works well on most lakes.

Location: Poynette WI. | Making up some pre tied trebles and wanted to share for the guys who are just starting to tie their own. I start by putting a base layer of thread, then added the flash, then I like to add a few marabou feathers that do not have large quills, then layer of bucktail, then a little more flash, then another layer of bucktail. The marabou really gives it a full body but still light enough to allow for good hook set. the marabou also soaks up water allowing for longer casts if you need it. These are great to have for back ups when cutting hooks. Total length is a little over 5 inches on a 5/0 hook.

Location: Poynette WI. | I was very happy with the way this pre tied treble turned out. a few layers with siver flash mixed throughout it. I always make sure to use select quills of marabou, only using feathers with a very small if any quill at all to eliminate to much bulky build up around the hooks shank. This has helped me to maintain a full body skirt with great action and still for a high hooking percentage and penetration.

Location: Poynette WI. | made up 10 pretied trebles for a fellow M1 member. 5/0 and 3/0 hooks. One thing i really try and do is make sure that there isnt too much build up around the hooks so that the material doesnt get in the way during hook sets.

Location: Poynette WI. | White/red flash w/ french blade, Orange, Yellow, Red bucktail w/ Dyed orange, yellow and chart. flash. both with French blades. I like to have a lot of contrast for tails. these have been a great size for those who want something that will catch bass, pike and musky. Great all around bucktail.

Location: Poynette WI. | A nice gold one that I traded for a squirrely jake. It's been great to trade a few for some nice lures.

Location: Poynette WI. | It's also been a pleasure donating for some great events and cause. Building lures has really opened some doors for me, but the best part has been all the people ive met or been able to work with. Thanks everyone and muskie first for a wonderful forum! |

Location: Poynette WI. | Thanks for the kind words. Lots of practice and care have gone into building them, I may not be the fastest but I know with out a doubt I've done everything I can to have a nice looking quality skirt when I'm done. Also alot of tips from others on here have helped a ton. |

Location: Poynette WI. | It's been a very busy off season so far for this basement builder. We're now into another new year, with another great year musky fishing and as well as a successful hunting season, I've been working on everyone's bucktails now. It's been amazing looking back on all my work, as well as other basement builders and how much everyone's musky lures have continued to get better every year. I wanted to take the time and thank everyone who continue to allow me to build you my own personal bucktails and also muskie first for the best basement builder site out there. Here's to 2016 and another amazing year building baits for and amazing fish! |
