| Sleeper for big fish! most of the fish tend to be weed related. But you can find some over deep water. Wapo has a good pop of white bass, i have seen them following the schools during the day.
Night fishing can be good,wapo gets busy during the day on weekends. good luck there are some hogs in there. |

| I'm also new to the lake since last fall. I have run into the white bass on accident, and had plenty of luck with small largemouth. However, I've been reaaaaly trying to find the big dogs, but can't seem to define any patterns or hot spots. I've seen them cruising the shallows in the spring, but now they've vanished, and I can't find em!!!!! Is it worthwile to hunt down muskie on wapo, or am I better off heading to deer or Bone or the flowage? help!!!
Also, how do you determine when the white bass are "following the schools during the day" as mentioned? What about the "pea soup" bloom this time of year?

| IF YOUR LOOKING FOR A 50'' IT IS WORTH WHILE SPECIALLY IN THE FALL.
I LOST A PERSONAL BEST TWO WEEKS AGO SAT50+,AND CAUGHT A 41''SUN.
THAT IS THE SMALLEST FISH IV CAUGHT OUT THIER.BOTH FISH I HAD ON
BULLDAWGS FISHING THE WHITEBASS SCHOOLS OUT DEEP.ALOT OF THE FISH
ARE DEEP DURING THE DAY.BOTH DAYS WERE HIGH SKYS AND HOT.IN THE EVE.
SOME MAY MOVE UP ON THE BARS.NIGHT FISHING CAN BE GREAT.
I WILL BE OUT THIER TONIGHT,IF YOU SEE A BLACK AND RED TUFFY OSPREY

| MOST OF THE FISH I HAVE COME IN CONTACT WITH HAVE BEEN WITHIN A HUNDRED YARDS
OF MAIN LAKE STRUCTURE,SUSPENDED BETWEEN 10 AND 11 FEET AND OVER 28 TO 30FT OF WATER. |

| How has the early fall Muskie fishing been on Wapo? I am looking to try a new lake in Polk County...really hoping to have my 10yr old son catch & release his first muskie. Probably will be throwing dawgs and big blades. I would sincerely appreciate any tips, locations or advice for this lake. Thanks much!! |

| Wapo is probably not a good choice for getting someone their first muskie. It's a low density lake. Virtually all of the adult muskies in there right now are migrants from Deer Lake. The WDNR just started stocking it at low level a few years ago, just to sustain a fishable population levels. (Migrants into Wapo from Deer Lake are less of an occurrence due to reduced stocking of Deer in recent years). Some big fish in Wapo for sure, but I'd suggest going to Deer Lake if you are just looking to get your son on some fish. |

| Matt - Thanks for your input, I sincerely appreciate your response!! That is very helpful information about stocking & density on Wapo. I haven't been on Deer for about 10 years. I used to do well on Bone Lake around this time. Any thoughts on Bone or Sand as compared to Deer? I am thinking we'll cast the weed edges and deep breaks while dragging suckers. Are we on the right track? I'd welcome any other advice you may have... I'd love to post a picture of my son releasing his first muskie. Heading up there mid-day Saturday and fishing Sunday morning as well. Thanks again! |

| Sounds like you are on the right track as far as tactics. It's been a few years since I've fished up in Polk County, but it used to be my old stompin' grounds. I've always preferred Deer over Bone from an action standpoint, but I always thought the muskies would run a bit bigger in Bone. Big Sand isn't a bad choice, either, but if your main objective is to get your son a muskie, I'd probably say Deer is the best option. |
