Found an unopened package of 130# flouro in my fishing room that I bought God-only-knows when. Does fluorocarbon degrade over time like Mono does?

I think it's higher shelf life than mono. I don't think it breaks down in UV light. I saw somewhere that Seaguar said like 7 to 8 years.

No. Fluorocarbon is not affected by fluorescent lighting or other forms of UV rays. There is no real expiration date on pure Fluorocarbon line.

Good question!
I would try it and if it breaks on that 55 incher we know it'll probably have a shelf life

Hook some up to a heavy scale and see how much pull it takes to break it or even better not being able to break it.
