Dog days may be bad for walleye fishing, but for musky August until ice up is my favorite time to target musky.
And to answer your questions, I hope my best moment is yet to come. |

| Hopefully have more to come. But so far I have had a couple great moments. Memorial weekend I took a week off work to camp/fish. That weekend I caught 3 musky my PB 47.5' a 45" and a 42". I had 2 other fish, one that i dumped at the boat and another that shook hooks. I also caught a smaller musky not worth measuring. Besides what I caught, I saw at least 2 musky every day. The day I caught the 45" I had woke up early, got a pot of coffee, put it in my boat and pushed off. I never dropped my trolling motor or started the main. My third cast in right next to my campsite I stuck the 45". 2 days later my brother came up. We went to a spot where you can catch a bass every cast, (the wife and sister in law were up, trying to make them happy). We had fished it earlier in the day and caught tons of bass. Went back out there later to do the same and my brother goes, I don't get it, there isn't a single fish here. I looked at him from the campsite and said, theres a musky hanging around then. He gave me a look and said said, "Yeah okay". I grabbed my rod and put a hellhound on and said, "Watch this". 2nd cast in I had a musky strike the hellound right next to shore, he tasted hooks swam off....and 30 mins later the bass returned. |

Location: Metro | So far my most fun fish was seeing one that bailed after seeing the boat. Did my big ovals for about 3 minutes and she came back up and hit my blades on the slow turn. Before that I used to give up way quicker and for whatever reason I felt that this fish was going to bite and it did! Wish I would have had someone in the boat to see.
That being said, the best part of the year is coming up. |

| The best moment so far was sliding the net under a 45.5" for one of my fishing buddies after a perfectly set up boatside hit, just this Saturday. I got to net four nice ones for him that day... who hadn't caught one since last September. And that was the third day of four-or-more in a day so far this year. It's been a good one!

| Easily my best year so far as far as size goes. I started off the year by catching my PB during the metro muskie tournament which landed me in 8th place (49"). That was the first muskie I have caught on a bucktail that I tied myself (marabou). Then a couple of weeks back I landed another PB (49.5") on a flash bucktail that I also tied myself. I took a tooth to the thumb while bringing him in and with the weather getting warm I haven't been back out since. I had a rookie in the boat with me that did a great job netting his first muskie, which was kinda scary when there's a giant on the end of the line.
There's something far more satisfying about catching them on lures that I crafted myself. I'm proud of every fish that I catch, but putting 2 new PB's in the boat on my own stuff just magnified it even more. C'mon cool weather!!!

Location: Waukee, IA | I didn't lose all of my matches like last year, so I've got that going for me. I had my first multiple fish day in Iowa, twice. Prior to the two days this year I had caught a fish and lost a fish or more in the same day but couldn't get the net under more than 1. I caught muskies in a couple lakes I'd never got one on before.
All in all I've had a good first part of the season, averaging just over 20 hours per fish. Iowa water temps have been high for a while so I've had time to focus on my upcoming wedding. |

| Topwater hit at sundown, 8 or so feet form the boat. Sped up the retrieve 20' out, fish charged hard like her namesake, and annihilated the lure just as I initiated the first turn. After that it was a total war, she leaped from the water with full head shakes at least 4 times despite my best efforts to keep her head down. Fish had a full head of steam, went under the boat, ripped line off the drag, and refused to give up. It was fantastic, what show! I got her in the net, cut some hooks and let her swim back home, hopefully to give someone else the same exhilaration she gave me. Estimate at 44-46", didn't measure her.
Man I love topwater. |

| Brad's topwater fish reminded me of these really neat ones:
Had fished about 4 hours with only a couple lazy follows to show. At dusk, went back to a weed line that showed two fish earlier. First fish's spot - nobody home. Second one, a cast placed right to its previous haunt brought her out to the boat. I didn't see the fish until it was about 6 ft from the boat, but it was HOT on my weagle. not big, but I still wanted it. rather than an 8, I just kept the weagle walking as I tiptoed around the back of the boat. She lunged at it but turned on a dime, fleeing and throwing water at the side of the boat. I kept twitching, and two plops later it came back and ate with wreckless abandon. Not a big fish, but it was a sweet strike.
Same lake, couple weeks earlier. Had already put three in the net when at sunset a nice one came out on my bucktail, moderately interested. She went around the 8 a few times but never showed much aggression, then sunk away to the depths. As we sat there discussing how big it was with baits just hanging in the water on slack lines, suddenly there was a boat-side eruption and my buddy starts screaming "I got her, I got her!". It was actually a good battle before I netted the skinny 47", which is the biggest fish I (or my fishing buddies) have caught in that lake. |

| Got a 50 inch on Lake St Clair. Over shadowed that day by a 50.5 caught by a good friend. Really happy for both of us. He took the "big fish" money he won and bought us appetizers at dinner. No losers in the group. Thanks to Medicine Man charters for a great two days.
Can't wait until September to start fishing again in MO. Fish aren't as big but lots of fun. Fish with a lot of people looking to catch their first fish and it is great when you can put them on one. All of those fish make great stories.
I will also spend several days fishing with a guy who will probably out fish me. Won't bother me because he is as good a fishing partner as you could hope for.
Come on cool weather!!!! |

| Dog Days? I didn't know what to call it.
A fishing buddy and I had a 9-musky caught and released outing and an 8-musky caught and released outing. I guess I'm hoping these old dog days stick around a while longer... |

| Monday early am went out on the Turtle Flambeau for just over an hour and got distracted by little northerns in a shallow weedy pocket. Went all the way to the back and made a cast into cattails and bull rush with a foot of water and a 36 inch musky launched itself at my bait like a rocket from 4 foot away. Only its belly was touching the water when the assault came. Scared the heck out of me but I caught a fish. It looked healthy and heavy but I am still amazed it was back up there. Obviously it was hunting the little northerns too. Water in the lake was 73 to 74, I didn't check the pocket but it is usually warmer. Surprise fish. |

| The best fish moment this year which that will not be beat, is when my grandson Tyler caught his first muskie. The second greatest moment was when he caught #4 on the same trip at night and on the release said "its slime time babeee" and rubbed slim on his chin.
A great great feeling to see someone else show the enjoyment of the chase, catch and the release.
The seeds been planted. |

| Just had a 6 fish Saturday fishing solo. Lost a 7th on the outside of the bag, 2 more bit but came unpinned and seen 5 more. Everything was agrresive. Never seen anything like it. Trying to figure out exactly what led to these fish going nuts. One before 5 during and one after the major in the morning. Nothing huge 46,43.5,43,42,41 and a 36". May try to post pics but if I remember it's kinda a pain. Resize or something?

| Well this is gonna seem pretty dinky to most of you guys but it sure is BIG for me. I've been chasing muskys for just over three years now and have never caught two fish in one day.....UNTIL this eve. Not only did I catch two fish it was BACK TO BACK CASTS!!!!!!! I've had an evening or two where I raised 3 or 4 fish but this was very exciting to get a double after THREE years!

| I have not had a ton of time on the water this year but so far I finally got my first fish to eat in the 8. Not the biggest fish being just under 40" but she was one of the strongest fish I have ever battled with. Thing was as solid as a rock and just pulled and pulled. Although my best moment was seeing the biggest fish of my life surface right next to the boat. We had just made a pass on a mid lake rock pile that tops out at about 2 ft with steep drop offs surrounded by 25ft of water. At the end of the second pass she was just there plain as day looking right at us. Never saw a follow and she wanted nothing to do with us when we did see her, but by god she was a sight to see. Easy mid 50s and very very very heavy. You just dont see that in WI on a inland lake everyday. I will never forget that fish. |

| This has been my best year, new PB two times for my self. My first multiple fish day. Just last night I put a friend on his first fish, a cool spotted 36". Unfortunately we didn't get a pic with him with the fish. He wasn't confident in doing a grip and lip so I was holding it in the water and going to have him do a release pic. As we went for a hand off the little guy decided it was definitely green and was off like a rocket. Got water in both of our faces and all we could do was laugh. |

Got her of the weeds on a regular size "baitfish" colored bulldog. Baitfish is what we are supposed to call walleye pattern right? Haha cannibal. |

All with my favorite 10-12 weeks of the year left to fish!
Cheers and hook-sets! |

^^ I understand this fully! I broke my foot falling from a roof and missed all last year with surgery, and rehab. Going for a week up north the end of September with my Dad and Brother, can't wait. Then I am blessed to go in October with my son for a long weekend. Fish, tho I want them badly, will certainly be just a bonus! Being on the water with them with be a gift! |
