| Anybody ever fish this late? |

| Ill be up the same week but at North Shore Lodge. Primarily, I'll be trolling 3-4 mph with 10" jakes, Triple D's and Headlocks. Bouncing off rocks in 10- 20 FOW near deep water. |

| So i can expect to loose a bait or two over the course of a week? |
|
|
|
| I lose very few.....99% will pull out if you back troll past the bait and pull in opposite direction. 100lbs braid and 130 fluoro leaders save most situations. The few I lose tend to get hung up on discarded rope, cable, logs; rocks are usually no issue.
If you are not banging rocks over reefs and points you will catch far fewer....like omitting a figure 8 from your repertoire.
Funny but some years I end up with more lures than I started with, courtesy of walleye fisherman who lose their rigs to lesser mono.

| Have you fish many years in late October? |
|
|
|
| Many years ago yes.....then the bride insisted on kiddies and my fishing excursions, although many, were focused on "fun fish" and I was bait-handler, fish netter and remover, and peace maker (two boys). Still take 'em every August to LOTW and they are of course seasoned and independent now so lookin forward to resume the Oct trip. Having said that, the lures may change but I doubt the fish have too much. Muskie fishing in Oct is about trolling, banging rocks and like any other time of year....tenacity.

Location: Northern IL | Been going at this time of the year for the last 10 years and it's absolutely my favorite time and favorite trip. This year I'll be fishing with my oldest son and we're really excited about it. This is a trip you will think about all of next year and 10/16 won't get here soon enough! At this time of the year a 40lber is within reach, last year we probably spent more time than we should have targeting walleyes but caught 19 over 7lbs including 3 30"s. Its a beautifully area, you and Dad will have a fantastic time. Best of luck!

Location: Monticello Illinois | I'm leaving Friday, 10/9 for Birchdale and fishing Eagle for the first time. We hired Cal Ritchie for the week and I'm really looking forward to it. From talking to Cal this week, the turnover is happening and nearly done. He projects a great fall bite. |

Location: Glen Ellyn Il | I just finished making a bunch baits for this trip, including a copy of the Headlock and some of mine own version that will easily reach 40 feet, the boat is ready, converted my front live bait on my Yar-Craft to a bait box, so now I can store 12 inch baits. I am ready to go, see you guys at Birchdale

Location: Glen Ellyn Il | There will be 6 spoonpluggers fishing the west arm and they are multi specie. Jerry B and his partner they are unbelievable, these guys will catch hundreds of fish in 10 days and huge walleyes up to 30 inches, all due to sponplugging knowledge, which includes casting, jigging and trolling, they are trolling down over 40 feet of water, I am the only one from that group that I will only target muskie, willing to put my time for the big sow, but I apply all my sponplugging knowledge to get to the fish. Happy fish hunting

Location: Planet Meltdown | We are fishing with Cal Ritchie all week. We plan on targeting Muskies the entire week but we will see how the week goes. I wouldn't mind tangling with some 30" walleye and football sized smallies as well. |

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | Willyboy, Fished the third week of Oct. on the Woods, Ice on the windshield, snow ect. Almost exclusively trolling. Banging rocks is the key. Noise of divers, grandmas, Jakes ticking the rocks was the trigger that that produced fish. Speed 3-4 MPH. Two 47's a 49 seven fish 40 to 45. It was miserable weather but the buggers hit. Can't wait to get back

Im sure you are one photogenic "Italian Stallion"...a 50" makes everyone look good.
Come to think of it.....it may take a 55 incher in my case.
Are you aware the word "Muskie"comes from the Ojibwa word maashkinoozhe, meaning "ugly pike"? Interesting. If we apply some basic math principle that two negatives make a positive (never quite appreciated that postulate) then, it follows that two uglies in a picture make a pretty....
Anyhoo... next time someone inquires as to what you are fishin.....say "butt ugly pike".
Appreciate that theres a really old native linguist somewhere missing a finger or two.

Location: Glen Ellyn Il | Hey Wall
I do not know about "The Italian Stallion part" but if a 55" will make me photogenic, I will take a 55 incher any day, for the learning part it's never to late to learn. Good luck and stay safe and the muskie Gods be with you. If you see a white Yar-Craft stop by and say hello

| I spoke with Marcel of Birchdale this morn...said it was quite windy last few days, limiting active fishing time. He was more optimistic on the forecast going forward. Water temp was 54 deg last he checked so the lake has yet to completely turnover.
I'll be up there mid day Sunday and whacking rocks before the day is over. |

Location: Planet Meltdown | Great week at Eagle / Birchdale. Cal Ritchie put us onto the fish even in tough conditions. The wind / cold front had us limited later in the week but we stuck it out and came in contact with fish everyday including a super fat 4 footer. Saw lots of quality fish and one absolute giant that we had up to the boat three times in a row. She kept missing the bait. Got a great Northern Lights show the one night, saw a Timber Wolf for the first time..... Awesome trip. Marcel and Tammy were great at Birtchdale.... Man can she cook! Nice meeting you too Gino, I hope the Musky Gods were kind to you. |
