I'm old, but I generally hang around with guys younger than myself so they can do all the heavy lifting...
They lift their fish, and I take their picture.
Besides, it's fun to call them whipper snappers and tell them 'back in my day' stories.

You know the ones...back in my day, we never ran out of gas in the middle of the night, back in my day, rocks weren't marked on maps, back in my day, there WERE muskies in Potato Lake. Makes for good laughs.

same here ... with age comes wisdom. smallies trump muskies unless you are either on the right water or on the water at the right time. trolling is still for the weak of mind and body ... 7 day trip on day 7 i'm on the deck rippin' while the kids are down wondering how i can keep going and my score is higher. type A til i die ...

knowing where the rock is is half the battle ... :0)

51 had a big burly young guy in amazement as I was one arm underhand pitching a hard head and not the smallest one like you see bass guys pitching their baits around docks. With that said my left hip wakes my ass up every night.

29 here. Caught my first muskie around 20 years ago on a bass spinnerbait. Been after them seriously for 8 or 9 years now I suppose.

Many days I feel like I'm still getting started and don't know anything! I wonder if that feeling will ever change.

Polling the age of muskie anglers, or the age of M1st users?

The older I get, the more I realize muskie fishing is largely a young man's game.  Caveat:  muskie anglers must be able to afford the game, which generally bumps the age somewhat.

Young guys find a way to work around the money....they (not all) buy things they maybe shouldn't, take trips they shouldn't, don't spend time advncing careers because they are in the addiction..it's an easy trap to fall into

^^ They have changed. I am 35, that reminds me of being a kid on vacation in Longville MN. There were two sporting goods stores that displayed muskies in their coolers. Always thought it would be awesome to catch one, waited nearly 30 years to do so.

Suppose to some I am still a kid. Hope to still be fishing for Musky for the next 30 plus!

Sorry to jump in the topic. Any of you guys think that starting at a young age, teens or even earlier, gives u an advantage. Same as with any other sport i guess. Wonder if u guys feel the same way as far as musky fishing fishing. I started musky hunting 3 years ago at 30 and sometimes feel that im lacking the intuition that comes with the young age.

35. I maybe relatively new to "musky" fishing, but I've been fishing and hunting as long as I can remember. Baits might be 5x's bigger and most musky waters maybe foreign to me, but the concepts of fishing effectively are the same. Forums like this definitely help lower the learning curve, but it takes some real drive and time on the water to excel at this. I only had to see one musky on eagle to know that this was for me! Thank God I didn't get into this any sooner, because I probably wouldn't have the family I have today! Although this can be an expensive hobby....what an awesome thing!

Good for you Lorin. I hope you get a couple of good ones. So do we assume your the one that checked netman. So far there are 7 of us over 69. Would be interesting to know how frequently we fish for muskies myself at least twice a week more frequently Sept. Oct. Nov. The nice thing about being retired is we have time and can pick times.

time on the water and an understanding of what lakes and rivers look empty and why that's important translates to musky fishing whether you started "finding" other species or started musky fishing way back on day one. the behavior of muskies once you chase em enough is something that will add onto that, but to me the experience of fishing is key. experienced fishermen catch fish ...

people who have experience with boats and water with a passion can go out and find "fish" consistently so, yes i believe that starting at a young age gives an advantage.

the best musky fishermen i know are also expert at other species too, smb's, catfish, salmon etc... most are great duck, grouse or deer hunters too.

Hmmm:

Only two of us over 75! I still enjoy the chase and the catch. I go almost every nice day and still seem to be able to fool them at times. I suspect that muskies help me keep feeling pretty good. Lots of exercise involved with muskie fishing, both physical and mental. Hoping for another ten years, maybe more!

First musky fishing experience @ age 12 (1962)...I was invited to go with the owner of the place where we were staying (somewhere in the U.P.). I was along for the ride but what I remember the most was the 22 pistol he had in his tackle box.
How things have changed over time.

I have been in the game since I was 16. I wish I had the time now that I had when I was 18 to fish.

I am on the cusp of the next age bracket. But been at it solid for 16 year.

34 for me. Just started up again this year, after a lifetime of chasing walleye, trout and Salmon around. I find the biggest challenge is having a 2 year old and a 4 month old at home. Hard to get out too often because of the kids. I was fishing 100 days a year before kids. Now not so much.
