I just started making some wood crank bodies (red cedar) and need to know what to do beyond the hardware. My buddy has an airbrush and createx paint and offered to paint them for free to get some more experience. What wood sealer and top coat should I use?

I haven't found a good sealer that i like yet, I'm sure someone else has some good input. For top coat i like etex, you need a turner though to keep it even.

I figured I would rig a turner out of a drill, or just wait to coat them until I find someone who has one. I'm mostly asking specifics so I can find a trio of sealer, paints and top coat that all play nice together. I'm pretty savvy about most things in my daily life, but I have zero experience with paint outside of my "honey-do list." I really appreciate the response

Minwax Sanding Sealer, Rustoleum 2X Primer, Createx paint and Envirotex Lite work for me.

I dip seal with Minwax spar varnish twice, and let it soak for a while on the first dip. Then I prime with Envirotex Lite twice, mostly use Createx, and clear coat with Envirotex Lite thrice.

I think I watched a video of Bill Looney dipping a lure in a white substance and then hanging it to dry. What was that and where do you get it?
