Well the season is coming to a close. I've taken some time to reflect back on one heck of a season.

It all started with a little 25-27 incher caught below the spillway while fishing for walleyes and smallmouth. Nothing to brag about but it was fun either way.

Then I headed out west for the summer. Sorno introduced me to the west by taking me out on Pineview. I caught my first Tiger musky ever. I dont remember the lenght, but if I had to guess I'd put it at about 27.5 inches. I think all the tigers I caught measured 27.5 inches...but the fish werent important. Spending time in the boat with Sorno was a blast. I just wish I could have been there for his 51 inch monster. Simply an awesome fish. Congrats buddy, you deserve it!!

Once I returned from my adventures in Utah I spent some time up north with Tim. I didnt catch anything but we had a pretty great time fishing, drinking and mowing the lawn at 3 am.

Once I got back to school I got some time to fish a lot more. I caught several fish in the river and some pretty nice fish to boot. I met a few guys that fish the river around here, and got to get pictures for a new friend of his 3 fish day which included fish on back to back casts.

The PI outing was a blast. Tim and I caught some nice fish, but the best part was hanging out with a bunch of M1st guys. Although sunday morning was not fun.

This fall I got to meet Tom Betcka and fish Green Bay with him a few times. Each time I've fished with him I've topped my personal best. The best part is just sharing time with Tom in the boat. We've talked about getting me a musky related grad school project. That would be awesome.

Simply put the best season I've ever had. The fish are just a bonus. Friendships forged this season are the best part. Thanks to everyone that has been kind enough to take me out fishing. I hope I can return the favor in the future!

Northern Exposure, just south of Antigo.....definately not worth anyones time. A horrible establishment.

Thirsty Thursday is finally here.....Which is a good and a bad thing. The good: I get to get drunk and chase women around. The Bad: I've been put soley in charge of keeping Merckid from doing his random acts of gay and un-coolness. This is no small task. Sure, I might get a little out of line while intoxicated, but I also dont make random phone calls to a certain male moderator of a musky forum when intoxicated.

I'll do my best to keep the kid in line! Intervention of the cool I do believe we called this mission.

Fun times and big girls for all.....I guess that would be in more way than one tonight!

Being back in school has been great....although I need to actually start opening some books instead of standing in the river all the time. In the 3 weeks I've been back I've landed 7 muskies. My goal for the year was 10, but though I might have a tough time with that since I was going to be in Utah all summer long, but now it appears that goal could be attainable.

I have also spent a fair amount of time out on the town, drinking far too much, and enjoying the night life. However I seem to have issues with my keyboard on party nights and post some things that really dont make a lot of sense. Woke up to read my great post about how I thought a little stretch of river was better than Vermillion or Mille Lacs......Come on Mike!

Also, I need to start coaching Merckid on how to drink. 5 beers and you are feeling it? Weak.

Looking for any advice from the crowd on how to get a chick away from all her friends so you can take them home.....Had one ready to go, even said she wanted to come over, but had all her friends with.....Need some good lines to throw at them.

Just got home from a week of musky fishing with Merckid. No fish in the boat but we did have our shots. I lost a real nice fish right at the boat on a super 10 weagle. Raised it once earlier then she finally ate once we changed our angle. Jumped clear out of the water after she ate and I set the hook. I had her on, and had she stayed in the water I probably could have had it...oh well. Merc missed one on a topraider. It was some tough fishing conditions though....flat calm, high pressure. It was a good time though and a few nights things got a little crazy around the campfire. It's never a good idea to fire up the push mower at 2 30 am!

T-minus 3 days until I make the trek home. First thing on the list to do when home is drive up North and fish with Merckid. I missed a nice sized Tiger musky last night with Sorno and that got me all jacked up to come home and spend some time on big fish waters and hopefully get a fish bigger than 27.5"

It's been a blast here the past three weeks. Spent all my time up in the Uinta Mountains during the week as well as at the bar in Evanston, WY. Many good stories have come from that bar....including one involving me and 3 strippers. I'm sad to leave that bar behind but its on to bigger and better things at the Point bars.

The next time I update I'll be home in WI and have a 50 inch fish in the net! Take care..

Well thanks for all the replies to the most recent entry. I have completely moved on now and look forward to getting back to school to do more fishing for both women and muskies. Hopefully I catch more muskies!

It became pretty obvious to me that I needed to move on about 2 days after the 'break-up'. To be honest I've had more fun out here since it happened than when we were actually together.....so forget her.

Life out here in Utah has been pretty hectic this past week. I've been working my ass off but enjoy every second of it. This past week we were up on the North Slopes of the Uinta Mountains doing various stream electrofishing surveys which often times consisted of some pretty wicked hikes carrying backpack shockers and full salt blocks. The salt blocks were utilized to raise the conductivity of the water due to the fact that the water was so pristine up there. Without it the fish were hardly tickled by the electricity. I was also shocked numerous times in the process.

Two more weeks to go out here then it is the trip back home to fish muskies with Merckid....maybe I'll get some woman advice from him HAHAHA!!!

Well my hour here at the Wyoming public library is almost up....I've got some drinks to put home before the bar anyways so take care guys and good fishing!

Oh how a life can change in such a short time. So far I've had a great summer. Working out here in Utah has helped me learn a lot of things about myself and my life.

I have solidified in my ind that I am doing the right thing with my life. I have chosen a career path that makes me happiest I can be. I love every day of work. Fish are fascinating creatures and I feel truly blessed that I get to work with them day in and day out.

I've learned that the general public is truly clueless when it comes to things in the natural resources. Some of the things that we do really blow their minds. Just this past week I had a lady tell me she was ready to call the cops because what we were doing on the river looked extremely illegal. It had been a long week and I was not in the mood to deal with this lady, but I did my best to explain what we were doing and why we were doing it. I still doubt that she has any clue what we are doing, but at least she stopped bothering me. I also learned last week that when you take a whitewater raft, rig it up with electrofishing equipment and take it throught a trailer park, the entire park comes out to watch you go under the bridge and shock....You would have thought the circus had come to town, but then again maybe we are a circus.

I have also learned that long distance relationships can tell you a lot about the person you are with. I found out I wasnt with the right person. Becky and I have broken up (ok now you can say 'I told you so'). There is a chance we could get back together once I get back, but to be honest I dont think I want that anymore. So I was down and out for a few days and I felt pretty empty inside, but there is now light at the end of the tunnel. A fellow Pointer up here and another tech from Maine and myself have discovered a gem of a bar in Wyoming.

Another thing I have learned....I cannot dance. No skills what so ever. Can I make a musky bait dance in the water and make it so irresistable that a big girl comes and eats it? Sure. Can I make myself dance and appear irresistable? Heck no. But its all in fun. Plus the hot bartender cant dance on the job anyways. I have formulated a MuskyHopeful-esque plan to close the deal with said 'hot bartender'. Part I: Find the correct color pattern to outfit myself with.

One of the final things I have learned, Tiger Muskies are fun little critters, but I miss true muskies quite a bit. Fishing with Sorno has been a blast. We've seen my boss, a complete rookie to muskie fishing catch a 42 incher, while we cant hardly break the 30 inch mark. We've had a 14 fish day. With 12 of the 14 being 27.5 inches. I am planning a trip to come back in a few years and hit up that year class when they are all grown up.

My trip out to Utah is coming to a close in a hurry. Its been an unbelievable adventure. I'm already thinking about working out here again next year. Look out true muskies....I'm coming home soon!

My summer has begun. Thursday I left from my house in Hartland, WI. after a night of unsuccessful fishing on Okauchee Lake. That trip was likely my last true musky trip until late August. Thursday morning I drove from WI to Kearny, MO which was about an 8 hour trip. The following morning I drove from Kearny, MO to Colorado Springs, CO. Once in the Springs I went to Pike National Park and drove up as far as I could go towards the summit of Pike's Peak. I made it to roughly 13,000 feet before I was forced to turn around due to blowing snow. I was about 1000 feet in elevation short of the summit. Was a cool view from up there. The next morning I drove to Cortez, CO where I stopped to check out the Indian ruins at Mesa Verde National Park. Tomorrow I head to Arches National Park in Moab, UT. The following day I go to Salt Lake City, UT then to Ogden, UT where I begin my work with the Department of Wildlife Resources. So far its been a good trip out there, but lots of hours and miles logged driving. Looking forward to getting out and doing some fishing and hopefully can tie into a few Tiger Muskies with Sorno. Until next time.......Good Fishing!

Been a while since I have updated this thing.....The school year has gone by quickly, still amazing how fast it goes by. Grades this semester should be pretty ok...still hoping for that elusive 3.0, but then again its hard to get a 3.0 when your constantly searching for that elusive 50 inch fish. I know she is out there in the stretch of river I fish in. Since the southern zone has opened I have already missed a mid 40's fish and a upper 40's fish, which is disapointing yet good to know they are still holding where they were last year. I'm in study mode now so havent had a ton of time to get out and fish, not compared to passed years at least. As school winds down I am looking ahead to my summer out in Utah working an internship with the DWR. I'll be based out of the same office as Sorno, so at least I'll get to know another M1st'r and Sorno has also told me I am expected in his boat, although maybe now he is regretting that since I have dropped questions about fishing on him like the US dropped bombs on Normandy. It should be a great summer experience for me in a great part of our country. I look forward to next school year as well, get to come home and fish the river in search of another fall Wisconsin trophy. Also booked a room at the Skyview today for Octobers MuskieFIRST outing in Presque Isle. I'll be going up with Merckid and fishing with him. Hopefully I dont have to push him in, and if I do that he wont get electrocuted with that fancy electric rainsuit of his.....just kidding of course! I'm looking forward to that outing, last years sounded like a blast and I'm sure this one will be as well........Until next time, good fishing.

Not much going on in the life of Pointer right now. I am on break and stuck down in Hartland, WI. I have NOTHING to do down here. I've already spent countless hours on here. I head back to point the 21st. Looking forward to getting down the the Chicago show as I have never been to this show. Also hoping to round up some of the Bear faithful and go watch the game at a bar somewhere. Hopefully the Bears get destroyed. Cant wait to get back up to school and hit the ice for some ice fishing.

While still battling my cold or flu or whatever the heck I have, my roommate and I decided to head out for a little fishing and I hoped to put him on his first musky. We got out and were going to try to move far up the river to a spot that rarely gets fishing pressure due to its locations. After hitting a few rocks we decided this spot was a bad idea. So we drifted down river and actually got stuck on a rock, so we decided that was a good area to fish. We eventually dislodged and dropped anchor to hold us in position. After a few casts all hell broke loose! The fish ate my bait about 5 feet from the boat and did its best to headshake the bait free. My roommate picked up anchor and we drifted down stream a ways where there was another student fishing in his boat. Thankfully he had a net and handed it over to us. My roomate netted it perfectly and just about jumped out of the boat! Clipped some hooks, took a measurement and off she swam. At 47 inches it was by far my biggest fish, shattering my previous biggest of 43. What a day!

I dont think I have gone two straight weeks without being sick. I'm F***ing sick of it.

Fishing for me has bee pretty good. I am up to 8 fish on the season, just two shy of my goal of 10. I also won my first tournament with Ulbian and his brother. I really enjoy the tournament fishing and well definately continue fishing them...its just the entry fee that I have problems with!

I hope to get out this weekend and do some fishing but I also have to do some studying for a test coming up on Monday. It has been nice and cold here lately and I have a feeling many people havent been in the river and those fish havent seen a bait in a while, so I NEED to get out there!!!

After a week full of 4 tests and no free time what so ever I have had the chance to get out and do some fishing. First trip out I landed a 35 incher. Later in the day my buddy got a 39 incher and some other guy got a 44. The next trip out I landed a 32 incher. I also raised a very nice fish which I am guessing was in the 44 to 45 inch range. This fish came up from right behind me and took a swing at my bait. She then sunk back down in the current so I danced my bait around the area where she sunk into and she came up again and hit my bait but only rolled it over so I couldnt get hooks into it. Now I have never caught any fish larger than 43 inches, and I imagine that catching a 50 inch fish is very exhilerating, but I have to say that to me the most exciting part of musky fishing is wading in the water and having a fish attack your bait no more than a foot from your leg. I have had fish attack out of no where while in a boat, and that is pretty cool, but when you see a fish come out of the current and nearly run into you it is pretty spectacular! Last spring I actually had a fish run into my leg while it was going after a bait. That really gets the heart racing! I hope to get out wednesday morning. I am at 7 fish on the season and my goal of 10 feels reachable now!

I'm sick and it sucks. I want to get out fishing but everyone is leaving this weekend and I want to get over this cold. It also hasnt helped that I have 2 tests tomorrow. I think I will do good on one, but probably fail the other. Organic Chem is going to make me switch my major.

Well, another Monday has arrived. This weekend was a fun, but short weekend. I got to take my fiance up north with me to my Dad's lodge in Ontario. We left Stevens Point at 3 pm on Thursday and arrived in Longlac, Ontario at 4 am EST. We slept in the car at the bait shop until 9 am so we could buy our fishing licenses. After buying our licenses and filling up the gas tank we drove another half hour to my Dad's place. I took a short nap and headed out lake trout fishing with my Dad. I let Becky sleep a bit longer since she was pretty tired. We scored two lakers and missed a bunch of other ones.

After about an hour and a half of fishing we came in and I got Becky up and we headed to a local bush lake. This lake is my Dad's "trophy pike" lake. Becky started out the action with a fat fish that looked like it would have went 26 or so, but it managed to shake her husky jerk before I could get the net out. A short while later my Dad gave a monster hookset on a fish. We never got a chance to see the fish but they way it was fighting it seemed pretty big. It ended up straightening the hook out on his Esox Cobra Jig. A few casts later I stuck a 38 incher on a Super Shad Rap.

Then we got off that lake and headed back out for some lakers. Evening came in quick on us and the lakers shut down. Seems like they arent big night biters. So we headed in and had a good lake trout dinner.

Saturday morning we got up and headed out to another bush lake in hopes of a full limit of walleye and pike. The weather, however, dashed those hopes. Over the course of the early morning a cold front came through, with heavy rains and a temperature drop of over 20 degrees.

On the bush lake we had a little action from pike on spoons, but nothing spectacular. Becky moved a real nice pike and had it swimming around the boat looking real angry.....my Dad tossed his spoon out there and the fish came out of no where and drilled his spoon, but avoided the hooks. After a disapointing outing on the bush lake we headed back to the lodge and back out for some lake trout. After an hour or so of trolling we finally found a few active lakers and Becky landed her first ever lake trout. I scored two more. We then headed in and cleaned fish.

The following morning came early and we had to hit the road. After about 11 hours we arrived back in Point, exhausted.

Now some people may look at this trip and say, "Why would you only go for a day and a half?" This trip was about much more than just fishing and catching fish. I got to spend some time in a boat with my Dad, which I havent gotten to do in over a year and that was pretty cool for me. Becky and I had a great time up there and look forward to a longer trip next year, and no cold fronts coming through!

T-minus 3 days till I head up to see my dad and do some fishing! I am really pumped to get up there. Havent seen my dad in about 6 months. Before I go however I cant lose focus on my school work.....Calculus test tomorrow morning. Then the Monday I get back from Canada I have a Genetics exam, then that Friday an Organic Chem quiz. So lots to do and all tough subjects that I need to stay on top of. Fishing up in Canada will definately help me unwind a bit though. Will be my first "vacation" of some sort this year. Anyone have any tips on how to target big pike during the fall times in a clear water lake? I'm hoping to tag a 40 incher up there!

Well....This kid is back in school. It is much nicer to be back here, than living at home! Got a tough work load this semester with Organic Chemistry, Genetics, Calculus, Environmental Ethics, and Environmental Econ. Going to be a lot of studying this year and working harder than last year. I still plan on fishing a lot and catching a lot of fish, but not until my school work is done...we'll see how long that lasts!

Next Thursday I am heading to my dad's lodge in Ontario ( www.agatebaylodge.com ) Taking Becky (my fiance) with me. We are all looking forward to getting together to do some fishing! The Lake Trout have been turning on up there as the cooler weather moves in. I also plan on chasing a 40" pike while up there.

It's great to be back at school and have full internet access so I can be on this site almost 24/7. This is the best musky site out there and the guys in charge do a great job! Keep up the good work guys!
